I know this statement comes at a bad time in the wake of Duke's creaming of U-M. But I believe Michigan State (7-0) should be ranked first in the nation. The Spartans are defending national champions and own the nation's longest winning streak at 18 games. The Blue Devils are No. 1, but not because voters think they are the best team. They are No. 1 because voters give them the benefit of the doubt and believe Mike Krzyzewski is the nation's best coach. This is a reputation vote.
