Our pal Tieguy has set up a utility for tenters, more specifically tent
managers,Â
to use while camping out. It's a prototype and in testing, but you
tent managers might want to check it out. Tieguy says that "TentCzar is a set of web-pages that allow a manager to say "you, don't tell me you gave me your class schedule- type it in on the web." It will handle listing of all of a tent's shifts, conflict checking, and all the other things a tent manager could love :)"
Here's the rest. There's a heavy level of geekdom involved, at least for non-Linux people.
Â
So, what is this tentczar thing, you are asking? Well, it's my attempt at making managing a tent in K-ville easier, as well as an attempt to learn the
php language and improve my SQL skills. Still not clear? TentCzar is a set of web-pages that allow a tent manager to say "you, don't tell me you gave me your class schedule- type it in on the web." It will handle listing of all of a tent's shifts, conflict checking, and all the other things a tent manager could love :)
This is still very much alpha software. While I believe it is quite stable, and will be reasonably secure tomorrow night (I hope), it doesn't have 1/2 the bells and whistles I want as a tent manager. On the other hand, if you install tomorrow, you won't have to ask everyone in your tent to re-install everything next week- the data formats won't be changed.
If you just want to play, for the next few days there will be a "guest" account (login guest, password guest). Try logging in at:
http://marvin.dorm.duke.edu/tentczar/
and playing with what you can find from there. If you are more serious, have knowledge of Linux, PHP, and SQL, and want to look at actual code, check out the tarball at:
http://marvin.dorm.duke.edu/tentczar/tentczar-0.1.tar.gz
Grab it- there is a README for installation (not easy if you don't already have php and pgsql already up), and a TODO list, so that you can see what I'm going to work on this week in my copious spare time :) Sorry, no windows version yet, though if you want to access it from Internet Exploder, be my guest- it should all work fine.
If you have any questions/comments, etc., just drop me a note at tieguy@dukebasketballreport.com. I'm doing this purely as a public service, so I won't be able to let people host their tents on my box (yet) but I'd like to get feedback from others if they are interested.
See you all Thursday (against Maryland in Cameron, of course...)
