What a wonderful day this has been! It was damn nice of the Chinese, the
Indians, the Egyptians and the Israelis to celebrate along with us despite the
fact that by their calendars it's not the new year, much less the new
millennium. That's really decent. We say the next time one of them has
a millennium, the US and the West damn well better pony up and celebrate like
it's 1999.
It would have been nice to have seen the North Koreans, and the Iranians and
more of the Cubans, but what the hey, it was still one of the great feel-good
events of recent years, right up there with the Bicentennial, the collapse
of the Berlin Wall, and the Weber State game.
Ok, that last one was a joke, but it's New Years, and like you, we hope
anyway, we're feeling our oats a bit.
With the possible exception of the moon landing, this has been the only time
in recent memory that the entire world, with small exceptions, has celebrated
something together. We say bully for all of you!! See? It can be a
sweet world. Now let's do everything we can to keep that spirit of common
humanity flowing.
