The new reality show on MTV, "Jersey Shore", appears to be capturing the imagination of viewers. I am wondering if it holds interest for anyone outside of the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area? Being from that area, and growing up with a lot of guidos, I find it highly entertaining. But, I imagine that for those unfamiliar with this particular subculture, the reaction is either one of revulsion or utter fascination.
Do you have an opinion either way?
i thought everyone knew about the jersey guidos? i found this (probably nsfw youtube video) hilarious but i don't think i'd watch this show
It just makes me happy that I have something to point to when the Northeastern intellegentsia turns its nose up at "unsophisticated" southerners and Texans.
Sure I love me some Toby Keith, have a shrine to the Intimidator and a meth lab in my back yard. But at least I'm not destroying the ozone layer with my hair gel, espousing the holistic effects of rohypnol and taking my shirt off every time I get into a fight.![]()

While I'm originally from Princeton, NJ and knew that guidos existed, I'd never been able to watch them in their natural habitat. It's fascinating.
That video is fantastic. There are a lot of people from New Jersey and the surrounding states at my school (not Duke) so it was pretty gratifying. No offense to people from the area, but most people I know from there really are jerks.
That said...(NSFW)...My New Haircut
Little-known fact... most guidos (including those on this particular show) are not from New Jersey at all. There are of course some, but the vast majority are from New York and we in NJ are lucky enough to have them come visit our lovely shore areas.
Cream and Crimson on the outside.
Duke blue on the inside.
Hm, lived in NJ all my life, and I've never seen a single one of those. Weird. I think you have to go to their habitat to see them, like serious mountain hicks.

As a native NJ guy, I have to say that there are quite a few natives that fit into the population being talked about. The northern shore areas,
Keansburg, Asbury Park, down to Point Pleasant get a good percentage of New Yorkers coming down. But the southern areas like Wildwood, Ocean City, and LBI are mostly NJ(with some Philly folks tossed in too).
Wow....is all I could say after I watched that first episode. Morbidly fascinated...I was sickened by it, but like a moth to the flame could not turn away. Myrtle Beach aint got nothin on those folks. I love the fact the girls calls themselves 'Guidettes.'
The show is causing such buzz that the cast has been in LA doing all kinds of appearances:

I have heard about The Jersey Shore on the news, and see the tabloids in the grocery store. But until about the last month, knew nothing about the show. Saw all the kids on Rachael Ray show, this week. And was flipping channels last night, and the show was on MTV. So I watched it. They were filming in Miami. Snooki was also arrested yesterday in Jersey. Learned that GTL means Gym Tan and Laundry.
I think I heard these kids make $30k an episode now.
