This is the board for discussions of Duke basketball and Duke athletics in general. Renamed by Boswell in memory of Julio's mom, Elizabeth King, an extraordinarily talented woman, mother, and Duke basketball fan.

I googled the quote from Israel Gutierrez column critical of Coach K and the Duke program that was on the front page. In the various readers' responses to the column there is mention made of Elton Brand's criticism of the university and its students. Is this true? If so, I had no idea that he felt that way. I was always of the opinion that he left because he was ready for the NBA, with the...
As some you may have noticed, we've made a few changes around here. The obvious one is cosmetic: we've changed the overall look and feel, and also added a separate front end for smart phones. We'll be tweaking these a bit as we get feedback, especially the mobile look which will probably undergo a complete overhaul or two before we're content. We ran into a lot of issues with Internet...
Ok so call me a nerd but every year I look forward to playing EA Sports NCAA College Basketball during the season on whatever system xbox, ps3, etc. So I found out today that they will not be making a game this year. Even worst EA Sports competitor 2K will not be making a college game either. I don't know about all of you but I am VERY upset!!! It sucks that this has to happen the year after...
I remember it has something to do with teams that beat us in the tournament having problems the next year but I can't remember if there is anything else to it.
OK, as promised in the NBA thread I am starting up this thread. Its a little early as training does not start til July and the Championships dont start til August, but since the discussion was started over there I figured some folks might be interested. (And heck we've been discussing our starting lineup for November for a month already!) Below are all the posts from the NBA thread. If a...
Team USA and Tunisia are playing now on ESPN 2. It was a close game at the half. At the end of the 3rd quarter.... USA 63 TUN 46. Team USA did not execute defense during the first half. Coach K was more involved in coaching during the 3rd quarter. Great to see Steph Curry!!
"Well, it's a long tournament, and we need to develop our entire team," U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "My position is based on running a marathon and not a sprint. That's something I've learned over the last five years. We need 12 guys to win. As we keep going along, it's not one guy. Not one guy." Before reading this, it had seemed to me that K has been moving away from having as short a...
Three weeks from today! I have to say that even though I am a total optimist, I am not overlooking or disrespecting Duke's opening opponent -- even if Elon is an FCS school. Despite our improvement in the last two seasons, Duke football has not earned the right to take anybody for granted. We've opened with losses to FCS Richmond twice in the last four seasons. Elon is a quality FCS...
No leaks yet but with football players among those being interviewed, it appears this is a football program investigation and not basketball related.. IC broke the story earlier today. http://www.wralsportsfan.com/unc/story/7970534/
It's about time we had one of these... http://www.dukehoopblog.com/2010/08/19/in-depth-quinn-cook-interview/
I know this is a little early but we have seen and heard what some of the guys we will be going after within in the next year or so... We have officially offered J.P. Tokoto and reportedly have a high intrest in Justin Anderson and L.J Rose... This is a thread to dicuss all our possible targets and any news from this class...
Woo Hoo! Put your post-game thoughts here.
Feel free to merge with old thread, but it's in the dust, I think. But since the main page has posted several links on it, I thought I'd kick up another discussion. The "4 conferences of 16" talk is heating up. What this is really going to do is create 8 defacto 8 team sub-conferences/divisions, but each pair of sub-conferences will be tied together through a championship...
I don't know how many people caught the Spain-Lithuania game, but Marty P was amazing for Lithuania. He played really tough D against Rubio, Navarro, and Fernandez. He even switched up on a PnR and guarded Marc Gasol for a play (smartly, Marty just fouled him immediately). On offense, Marty took it hard to the hole in the fourth and hit a huge step-back three to tie the game. Ended up with 13...

"I haven't used any of my visits yet, and my father advised me to check out other schools. So out of respect for my father, I'm going to look at other...
Glancing at the ACC next year, it's pretty clear that DUKE will be the clear favorite and has a great shot of going 16-0. With so many talented players going pro, most teams will be worse next year. Here is a look at some of the losses: Clemson - lost Booker and Potter; Purnell gone Wake Forest - lost Smith, Aminu, Williams, McFarland, and Weaver (add top 10 recruiting class, new coach)...

It seems that each year the announcement of the men's basketball schedule comes a little later. September starts on Wednesday and this year's schedule has yet to be posted. I find it hard to believe that it hasn't been decided upon yet.
OK, so no-one thinks the Iron Giant with a 55 would be cool. OK Doesn't anyone think that Zoubek lifting Jon up off the floor in a hug when he came out off his final game at home wasn't cool? No-one commented on it but it sure brought emotions from me. Coach's face when Jon came off the floor too.
New thread, since this is NOT speculation. Living close to heaven, I must have been the only one to receive my ticket order today. Here's the listed schedule... 15-Oct Countdown to Craziness 7PM 23-Oct St. Augustines (exh) 7PM 4-Nov Cal Poly Pomona (exh) 7PM 14-Nov Princeton (CBE) 16-Nov Miami OH (CBE) 19-Nov Colgate
