Would it continue under a different name, or would it just fade into the history of our rivalry with UNC? I hope it continues, and I suggest it be named the Shades of Blue Trophy. I would think that the two Athletic departments would have the resources to administer it, but how would interest in the trophy be promoted and finance. Any comments?

Last night was the home opener, and the game went pretty well (a win is a win, or so I've heard). It was a game of stops and starts for Duke offensively. The defense was pretty consistent throughout the game, GSU did a decent job of weathering it in the front court, and did very well at handling the press in the back-court, they weren't as turnover prone as some other teams we've played (although we still forced 24, a decent number). The offense was a little bit off at times, with us committing 17 turnovers ourselves (fewer than other games, but still pretty high). Our rebounding was good (we out-rebounded them 27-22; a low number because GSU slowed it down on offense and because of the turnovers on both sides). Not sure how I feel overall about the game, since GSU was picked to finish sixth in SoCon by the coaches.

Individual performances, I thought KJ did very well coming back from her injury/illness/whatever. Joy had some very good plays in the first half and played with real energy on both ends of the court. Krystal is developing her post skills and continues to show improvement, but she keeps trying her hook shot that I've seen work like once in either of the games that I've seen (maybe she's hitting 80% in the ones that I haven't; who knows? ;) ). Allison Vernerey is still impressing me, even though she didn't score as much last night as she has in the past. Jasmine, Karima, and Bridgette also played pretty well, IMO.

Anyway, those were my thoughts on the game.

M.H.

Could the hick have been more colloquial, good ol boy than "chewed his rear end out" and "scares the dickens"? I guess they had possum for a midnight snack when they retured to Chapel Hill . . . the only thing missing is Jed Clampet as an assistant coach and Ellie May as a cheerleader. Who in 2009 refers to a human being as a "pet"?

Geeze! Win or lose, at least Coach K doesn't speak in colloquialisms with the home spun drawl of an N.C. hillbilly (does anyone know if hillbilly is one word or two? It's not a word I've used or been exposed to at Duke) Also, does anyone know what a "dickens" is and how it could be scared? Is it like a demon or something . . . please advise, I'm baffled? Must be some N.C. mountain lore we've never experienced?

You get to pick 2 other games that are against other ACC teams or major non-conference games, and then 2 other games that are against the bad teams on the schedule. The only ACC game that you can't pick is the game against UNC, they are selling a similar 5-game pack for that game.

Anyways, if you look online right now, you can't find tickets via Stubhub or anywhere else that are below $99 per ticket for only the Duke game, so it's actually a good deal to buy this pack and get tickets for other games as well. I went to the game @ BC last year and paid more than $100/ticket, so I'm definitely taking advantage of this. Let's get lots of Boston-area Duke fans at the game! Here's the link:
However, I was asked to pick him up one day and had the privelage of actually meeting Coach K. (as a basketball fan its impossible not to be excited about meeting coach K even if he is coaching my sworn enemy) I say meeting because even though he was flying in and out of town to be with team USA he still found time during the week to come back for the camp. He went through the line of mostly consisting of parents and actually talked with them individually. I mean you would of thought he had all the time in the world, he asked how my cousin liked the camp and even asked about my Carolina baseball shirt that I was wearing. We both shared a laugh as he shook my hand and told me he needed me in a Duke shirt next time we met. I was really impressed. So, yes even as a die-hard tar heel I will say I gained even more respect for him for showing that dedication to his camp even when he was so busy trying to get our national team back to prominence
