The smiley face ad on these forums is very annoying!

Everytime it gets mentioned, it gets a new lease on life...

It's not going away despite how little you talk about it. It's destined to haunt us forever.

Now there's a new benefit--on the newest firefox, I don't get them--I just get labels for them! No more talking....

I have broken three monitors trying to bash those little suckers - I swear, if I ever get a hold of one I will squish his little round head.

Trying to make them go away:

Lisa VISA, Lisa VISA, Lisa VISA, Lisa VISA, Lisa VISA!

We all ought to stop the multi-emoticon sentence ends. I personally think that might be doing it.

Perhaps a nice long thread devoted to ACL injuries, poker, and website development might get some better ads.:)

Have we started a yogurt thread yet?
Cheers,

You all ought to switch to Firefox. I'm not getting those ads and seeing the destructive hostility they provoke, I'm mighty glad! (would add a smiley for context, but I'm trying Lavabe's theory)

I'm using Firefox and I get them...any help as to how to get rid of them?

I second that! And I've got the new Firefox.

 Hmmmm... maybe the university server is blocking them on mine? When this was set up, the IT guy did some crazy stuff to clamp down on spam, pop-ups, and their ilk so perhaps that's it. Call your IT department and pretend that you have a real problem (I mean, obviously these ads are a real problem, but the sort of problem that they would get paid to repair), then ask them about it.

These drive me nuts, too. I keep my volume off at work, but when I logon at home the smiley ad scares the crap out of me.

I don't know why, but mine disappeared when I upgraded firefox--I'm at home, so it's not an IT issue. Now mine has the words instead of the talking smileys...

This reminds me I need to find a LAWYER IN CHICAGO to find out more about MESOTHELIOMA and ASBESTOSIS.

Yes - but be sure that the ambulance doesn't back up and run you over. ;)

I use Firefox 2.0.0.14. I got them when they first appeared weeks ago, but after complaining to Julio about them, I haven't gotten one in about 3 weeks! Thanks Julio! (Please don't inundate Julio with email. I don't really think he did anything special just for me :) )

I didn't change any security settings in my computers; I do use Norton Internet Security 2008, so maybe that is blocking them automatically?

I'm beginning to think that DBR can not really do anything about annoying ads (even though they asked for input). They do want the money. They have to bend over and take it as we do one this board.

I've decided to embrace the talking ad. I found that if you roll over it repeatedly, you can get it to call out "hellooo," in a nearly musical state. "Helloo" in the round, if you will. It's like my own, personal greeting chorus. :D

No, no! Don't encourage it! If it knows we hate it, maybe eventually its feelings will be hurt and it will move on to another site.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who does this. It is entertaining to get a chorus of "helloos" going. :D

I think I'll refer to Mr. Hello henceforth as Ol' Roy.:D

I admit that I had never tried that as I usually try to avoid scrolling over the obnoxious little critters. You and DevilAlumna prompted me to try multiple scrolls - and it made me laugh. Thanks for the Friday afternoon chuckle. :D
