I know its early in the week (and after I see time trials I will probably change my picks), but I am already excited for this one.
Will there be another first time winner at Talladega, or will Hendrick notch another win (what, have they won 6 of the last 8 races their?) or will Jr get back to the winning ways?
Will someone driving something other than a Chevy win?
My early picks:
(1) JJ
(2) Jr
(3) Carl Edwards

what . . . has it been 1 no chevy win at Dega since 99 or something? I think I saw that Dale Jarrett won in a Ford in 05 or something like that. Can't like those odds ...;)

I like Kyle Busch. he clearly races because he loves to do it (and he does it very well). He is top three in points in the three series - that is remarkable!

I (quite reluctantly) admit Kyle Busch is a good drive. But both Busch's think they are God's gift to racing (if not the world), and I can't stand that kind of attitude. But, that's just me.
I know Jeff Gordan is Jr's "natural" rival, and he seems like a like-able person, thus I can't not like him. I saw them interviewed a while back, long before Jr announced he was leaving DEI then signed with Hendrick, and Jr had a lot of genuinely good things to say about Gordan. And, even said that with his daddy gone Gordan has sort mentored Jr on and off the track.
If Jr ever praises one of the Busch's I just don't know what I'll do. I'll deal with it when and if the time comes. In the mean time - ABAB.

Warning: YmoBeThere Jeff Gordon sighting re-hash
I saw Jeff Gordon a couple of times, back when he was married to Brooke. (I used to work in Mooresville) Once at a Longhorn Steakhouse, he sat down at the bar...I was there with a couple of visiting engineers from Mexico. He didn't have anything to drink he was just waiting for a takeout order. The other time was at an Italian restaurant, again I was hosting foreign engineers this time from Germany and Italy. He was at the table next to us with Brooke. This was in the '96-'98 time frame.
And that folks is the rest of the story.

Wasn't that the time when he was pushing ... THE BOOK?! [Ooooh ... dated 90's reference for $200, Alex]. Remember when his mug was on just about every billboard? Awful.

Interesting to see Ken Schrader and Allmendinger near the front. I've already told my Ken Schrader story...
Can Denny Hamlin win on a Super Speedway? He's got a terrible record at Talladega, but I wanted to go with a non-Chevy driver, and while agreeing with Lavabe on Tony Stewart's Toyota would have accomplished that, I guess I just need to be out there on my own.

Hamlin is horrible at Dega, but it's a different year, with a much improved team. I would NOT dismiss him.
What on EARTH is going on with Gordon?
The guy that usually scares me is Edwards. I suppose the Dodge boys might do well, given their performance at Daytona. But the starting order is just plain old weird!

I think Stewart's car is tough this week. I am shocked at the starting position of Stewart (2) vs. Jr (9), JJ (10), and Edwards (11). The Gibbs Toyotas start at 2, 5 (Kyle), and 7 (Hamlin).
I am also shocked that the other Kyle (Petty, that is) starts at 15, but Gordon is at 21. I wonder what the over/under is for the number of laps Petty completes.;)
Meanwhile, Mr. Judd broke his ankle in the Nationwide race yesterday.

Can someone explain to me how Jr went from 2nd to 18th? I swear all I did was blink, and he was in the middle of the pack. That is restrictor plate racing...no car has a strong enough engine to pull away from everyone else, so when you get out of line(and the draft) you quickly get shuffled back to the end of the line.

Its relatively simple, you choose drivers that have been separated into three classes. A(the guys that have a shot), B(not as good as A) and C(just happy to be there). You must choose 2 from Group B and you can use a driver for no more than 9 races. If someone performed poorly last year, they may be in a lower group than you would expect. Today's winner, Kyle Busch, is a B driver.
Lavabe
04-28-2008, 12:08 AM
Today's winner, Kyle Busch, is a B driver.
That hardly seems right, considering his record this year.
As for C drivers, those would include Michael ("55 is NOT the speed limit") Waltrip, Kyle Petty, and Joe Nemechek?
A drivers include: JJ, Smoke, Edwards, Gordon, Gordon, and who else. Where do we get a list of who's who?

YmoBeThere

You are limited to the drivers you select before qualifying: 2 from Group A, 4 from Group B, etc. You can then select from those for your actual scoring driver. This was done because someone may have changed out an engine and moved to the back of the field.
