Had ya'll heard this? Someone here this morning told me and I looked it up. They were saying they heard he only had a few months to live.

Geez. Anyway, I hadn't heard this so thought I'd share...

Yeah, and he still smokes apparently.

I saw this story a few nights ago on Entertainment Tonight. Very sad. Dirty Dancing was a big part of my childhood, I remember my mother watching it hundreds of times...

Nobody puts Baby in the corner. :(

Best wishes Patrick.

Supposedly, his reps are saying his cancer is "limited" and they're not mentioning any timeline publicly. From what I've heard about it, it's rare that it's found when it's not advanced. If they do find it "early", it's b/c they discover it while looking for something else. Often, the prognosis is grim and patients are only given a few months. Too little official info has been given to really know anything about Swayze in particular. He is a heavy smoker and was a heavy drinker. Two minuses.

Very sad.

Geez.

I didn't know he was 55 either. He's stuck in my mind forever at "Dirty Dancing" age.

Smoking does increase the risk for pancreatic cancer by 2-3 times, but it often hits people who do all they can to minimize their cancer risk.

Alcohol abuse is a much larger risk factor for pancreatic cancer than is smoking. As stated above, the prognosis is very poor.

My wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 3 years ago. She had a Whipple operation, removed half the pancreas, gall bladder, common bile duct, part of her stomach, and part of her intestines. She was given less than 6 months to live four times. The fourth time they were right - she died last summer - after over two and a half years. Her doctor at the rehab center said no one ever lasted a year. Her oncologist said he had had only one survivor in 23 years of practice. Patrick's odds are not very good.
