In the word “Duke” at the top of the DBR page, who is the cheerleader in the “D?” Is she a random cheerleader or is there more meaning behind why she was singled out?

Don't know if there's a reason why she was singled out. She is, however, a very nice girl - graduated in '00 and then ultimately went to nursing school at UVA.

Right, she was in the best graduating class in the history of ever, so that may be the special symbolism.

O national championships and one Final Four? I think not.

I've met enough other alumni to know we all size each other up this way, so don't tell me I'm wrong.

I think BB was referring to it being his own graduating class?

And I think Hurley is saying that the graduate class of students is valued by the performance of the MBB team during their years of attendance.

Bad news for the class of '76.

Not my class, btw. My class at least had a couple of NITs.

Oh SNAP! I wouldn't take that if I were you Hurley! You just gonna lay back and take that on the chin!?

I was class of '76. Terry Chili was class of '76, and he cemented the huge win over Maryland his senior year with free throws!
Jim Spanarkel was a freshman in the '76 season.

It was fairly obvious what Hurley was saying; the reason behind BB's comment wasn't as obvious.

Unfortunately there weren't any national championships during my time at Duke, but I still really enjoyed watching the team play. Also, the team which I think was potentially the best Duke team ever played during my time there.

I'm not; I was in a meeting for the last couple hours.

Anyway, EVERY time I have met another Duke alumnus the first topic of conversation is ALWAYS how good basketball was when each of us was there. This includes '70s and '60s alumni. I don't need to argue this because (a) I'm secure in the truth and (b) the only graduating class I accept crap from is '92.

I presume billy doesn't want me to bring up the difference in on-campus alcohol policies between my time and his.

Meh. You were pampered. True worth comes from fighting through the hard times. The worse the team, the tighter the alcohol policy, the better the class.

Yeah, there's a reason why a certain loss in 1999 was the worst moment of my college career. Damn you, Rip Hamilton.

I think all I could cite to show the dominance of '00 are calendar-related awesomeness and our US News and World Report rankings. But those are both really dubious metrics.

Ugh, you had me up until the '92 part. I also have had this conversation many times. As a T'94 married to a T'92, I can't afford to have people accepting crap from '92s. Hope my husband doesn't see this thread.
