The 650 hp Corvette SS, which is reported to do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds or less, carried the internal code name of Blue Devil. The official name, however, will be the SS. I would have preferred Blue Devil (I wonder why?)
There was an SS Corvette produced for the Sebring race in 1957 or 58. It didn/t finish the race.

Thank god. I'm not sure it's very good marketing to sell a car named "SS." Still some bad memories out there about those initials.

Chevy has used the SS moniker - for Super Sport - for many years. It has a noble history in the auto world.
