what a win for eli and the giants. i love coughlin's line to the team in the locker room about the tickets.

Great game, great win. Romo sucks.

apparently jerry jones bought 2 tix to the super bowl for all the cowboys and left them in their lockers. coughlin made some comment along the line of "your tickets are waiting for you" (i don't know the exact comment).

that's what someone said on tv but that doesn't make sense because they would have been home (unless they were tix to fly people into the big D).

They were game tickets for family, I thought.

Still, the question is: would you have gone to Mexico with Jessica Simpson and risk every thing that is going to be said now or stay in Dallas and study the Giants playbook.

At my age, I go to Mexico with Jessica. The hell with my team. Ha ha. Me habla espanol.

What a sweet win for the Giants! As a Giants fan, this is like Duke being a #8 seed and beating #1 seed UNC in the NCAA tourney (I know that can't really happen because of the conference/regional final rule.)

Dallas dropped a lot of passes but I thought one of the keys was how the Giants shut down the run in the second half and were able to not give up big plays with a depleted secondary. And all the Cowboys penalties - especially the face mask that gave the Giants the chance to score before halftime. That was the difference in the game IMO.

Romo was not sharp despite having a lot of time to throw for most of the game. He missed Owens deep on the second to last series and had Crayton open for a TD on the second to last offensive play of the game for Dallas.

He is going to get roasted for his little Mexican tryst. And he deserves it. He has to know that as the QB of the Dallas Cowboys, the #1 seed in the NFC, what kind of scrutiny he is under (especially after last year's disastrous ending). He is going to get all the praise and credit if he wins, and have the microscope up his you know what if he loses. Instead of going on vacation he should have studied film.

C'mon. More like Romo= 2nd year quarterback.

Let's not forget how young this guy is. Not everyone is like Tom Brady and just racks up Superbowl rings right off the bat.

Then again, Tom Brady is no Jimmie Johnson.

he's never won a playoff game in his career. he's also a 5th-year quarterback -- not a 2nd year quarterback. it is beyond me why he would hop over to mexico with jessica simpson in the middle of the playoffs but he got exactly what he asked for. the giants were in his face the entire second half but he still made a lot of bad plays (like the intentional grounding or not throwing it away on a couple of the sacks).

Romo looked way out of control in the 4th quarter. Feldspar is right, he is a 2nd year starter, but he gives the impression that he's letting the sudden success get to his head a bit. Yeah, he's a 2nd year starter, but having never won a playoff game, don't you stay home and watch game tape all weekend before getting ready? Just to show commitment to your teammates and to the game, if nothing else.

ummm, yes, ZERO playoff wins and he started his career in 2003. let's see, 2008 minus 2003 equals 5.

when i heard that he was in cabo with jessica simpson last week, i got a big smile because i knew that he was going to screw it up today and he didn't disappoint.

It's a classic case study in the power of a woman. Been happening for thousands and thousands of years.

Man: "I really need to do X."

Woman, looking into man's eyes: "But I really want you to do Y."

Man, glazy eyed: "I...must...do...Y."

I mean this as a compliment to women, by the way.

Jessica Simpson is a mess. Why would Romo jeopardize the Cowboys' chances by cavorting with Nick Lachey's sloppy seconds?

Using Romo's 5 years in the league against him as some kind of career playoff failure is a little unfair. As someone else said, he's started for less than 2 years. A lot of QBs have struggled in their first few trips to the playoffs. If the Cowboys have homefield next year and lose again, and Romo doesn't play well, then we can talk.

And this whole Mexico thing is so overblown. It's exactly what's wrong with the media and the talking heads on TV. I guarantee that there were Patriots, Colts and Packers last weekend that were on similar "retreats." The fact he was with a celebrity makes his dalliance worse, apparently. I guess if I vacation before my big merger closes next week, I beter not spend the weekend with Cameron Diaz. Make sure I change my plans, please.

This is just people looking for a story where anyone with a speck of sense would realize there wasn't one. But ESPN Mag, People and the Enquirer have to sell those 'zines. Like he said in his post game -- it's not like he was out carousing in Vegas. And people in other parts of the country need to remember, Cabo is a quicker flight from Dallas than NYC, so it's not like he went that far.

He didn't play well, the Dallas defense couldn't tackle, etc. etc. Really, though, the Giants played great. Should be a fun game in Lambeau next week. Favre is gonna be running all over the place.

I agree that it's overblown to an extent, but the fact remains that it was a distraction. A quarterback who wants to win so badly that he's working all through the bye week to prepare sends a much stronger message to his team. As a leader, shouldn't that be Romo's responsibility?

brady was here in nyc last week with giselle. there's a big difference between going out to dinner with your gf in nyc, which is less than an hour plane ride away and heading to another country and lounging out at the pool with pina coladas with jessica simpson, who isn't the first person who comes to mind as someone who has lights out at 11.

if you decide to pop-off to another country in the middle of whatever deal you are working on with anyone -- celeb or non-celeb -- when you should be doing your work, then you should get flamed as well. jimmy cayne got flamed big-time for jerking around at a bridge tournament when bear stearns was melting down this fall. stan o'neil got flamed big-time for jerking around on a lot of golf courses when merrill lynch was melting down this fall (and neither of those guys was with a celeb!). the fact that romo was blowing off his work -- like studing giants tape -- with a celeb simply exacerbated an entirely stupid decision on his part.

Totally agreed. Romo knew it would be a distraction and that the media would make something of it. It may not be fair, but as the leader of the team seems he would have done some PR to paint a picture of all out focus on his team and its mission.

Jessica will be leaving him soon anyway. Then, in hindsight, and with her having moved on to Tom Brady, he'll probably just sit in a chair in a corner and think, "dang."

I guess. I don't know the locker room dynamics of the Cowboys. No one in the organization seems to be upset about it. Just Skip Bayless and his ilk. I will point out that backstabber, blame-shifter numero uno Terrell Owens had Romo's back tonight. Not that that means much, but take it for what it's worth.

So I guess the fans and the media can see it as a distraction to fill up 10 minutes of Sportscenter and 2 pages of a magazine, but until Jerry Jones, Wade Phillips or his teammates start complaing about it (wasn't Witten there with him?), I'm comfortable that it wasn't an issue with them.

And who says he wasn't studying the playbook while Jessica was at the spa?

I guess that's where I disagree, and I'm glad you pointed out Brady was in NYC with his girl instead of holed up studying his playbook in his Boston condo or wherever he lives (not saying he needed to, just saying). There isn't much of a difference in my mind. Dallas to Cabo is a 3 hour flight gate to gate. So Brady went a one hour plane ride away, and Romo went 3 hours away. And it was a different country. Uh oh. (If you've ever been to Cabo, it might as well be the USA, and I doubt they were slumming it). And again, people have made points all week that teams with bye weeks let their players take the weekend off.

The only "mistake" was he was with a celebrity. The fact that that's even an issue is an unfixable flaw in our society unfortunately. If he takes SMU Sorority Cutie #4 to Mexico and has the exact same weekend no one cares. I dunno, I just wish the media would stick to the substantive stuff sometimes. This ain't it.

Feldspar and Dukie8 -- play nice. You'd better not ruin my Giant buzz after less than six hours.

And, FWIW, it's so silly to play up the whole Mexico thing. Apparently players went all over the place during the week off. Witten was with him. I could understand if he was the only guy who took a trip, but he wasn't.

Mexico meant nothing. Eli, Osi, Strahan and Co. meant everything. :D
