Ahh yes!

The folks are at work on #22 (http://www.accessatlanta.com/entertainment/content/shared-gen/ap/Movies/Film_Bond_Girls.html), and here is a look at one of the new Bond girls.

Note to Shammrog: No, it's not the girl you knew from high school.

Eye-candy-wise, it looks like a step down from Eva Green and Caterina Murino. They were the best 1-2 punch I've ever seen in a Bond film. JMO.

After reading the first of several articles about the new Bond movie I thought, why in the heck did they choose that title? It makes no sense! Thank God someone explained that the title is actually from an Ian Fleming story. The Broccoli's do know how to keep him tied to the movies even though they don't follow his books. Which I don't have a problem with. :D

Did you know that Goldeneye was the title of a Fleming estate? I think it was somewhere in the Caribbean.

I need some help with the last Bond movie. The bad guy, the one whose eye bled, was shot in the head his torture session with Bond. But you see him later in the movie, in Venice. He is standing near a dock wearing a pair of glasses in which one glass is dark. I think it was Vesper that saw him. And, IIRC, he survived the final action scenes there too. What am I missing?

Oh, and to sidetrack ever so slightly. Added another cat to the brood this week. Named her Moneypenny. :D As she is a tuxedo cat thought about naming her Domino, but then no one would understand the true sense of the name. They'd think I named her Domino because she looks like a Domino.

Weren't those two different bad guys? Le Chiffre was shot during the torture session while the head of the "Syndicate" was seen in Venice. I believe the head of the "Syndicate" was also present with Le Chiffre in the opening arms deal scene.

That makes sense. But, did the head of the "syndicate" have an eye issue as well? The guy I'm thinking of who stood on the dock wore a pair of glasses with one dark lense which is why I thought it was Le Chiffre (thanks for putting his name in, could not recall it for the life of me).

Guess I'll have to pop the DVD in this weekend. Bummer, have to watch Daniel Craig again. Whoa is me. :p

I watched Casino Royale over the weekend, I have yet to tire of this movie.

I now think the guy on the dock was the filmmaker's way of confusing us. At a quick glance he looked exactly like Le Chiffre, and the dark lens covered the same eye Le Chiffre had problems with. Though as I watched further it was apparent they weren't the same man. And, I never saw the guy earlier in the movie, which lends to my theory that the filmmaker tried to confuse us.

I welcome anyone else's interpretation. Surely I'm not the only person who has been baffled by this.

My first Bond movie in a theater was For Your Eyes Only. I was hooked even as a young kid. I love the series and have all the movies but I gotta say that it's really hard to watch any of the Dalton/Brosnan flicks. I was so happy that the writers/producers of Casino Royale abandoned the ridiculous comedic aspect of its contemporary predecessors. Daniel Craig is great. Can't wait for the new release.

My first Bond in the theater was Die Another Day. Don't ask why it took so long.

Like you I have a hard time watching the Dalton flicks, though I like a few of Remington Steele's (PB will always be Remington Steele to me). I have an even harder time watching Roger Moore, but there are times that I'll really get into on of his Bond movies, though never Man with the Golden Gun. That belongs close to the top of the worst Bond movies.

Daniel Craig, well, what can I say? He is awesome and is a great Bond. Hopefully QoS won't change my mind.

For me, Roger Moore has been the clear #2 behind Connery. I suspect Craig will likely supplant Moore at the #2 spot after a couple films. Still, I enjoy most of RM's movies. For Your Eyes Only, View to a Kill... whoa, I got sensored trying to write the name of the movie starting with "Octo..."

So she's the Count Rugen (http://rugen.org/) of Bond girls.

Another neat fact about Gemma Arterton: she was born in January 1986, which makes her so young that the first Bond of her lifetime was Timothy Dalton. (A View to a Kill, Roger Moore's last one, came out six months prior.) Eva Green, who also seemed ridiculously young, is more than 6 years older.

It's really the only high-profile release left this year with no Academy agenda.

But then, giving us a sneak peek of THAT STUNT is a subtle reminder of The Bourne Ultimatum, which did go 3/3 Oscar night. And its director did get Halle Berry a win and Johnny Depp a nomination. So I know what you mean.

So in what categories does it stand a chance? Probably not Song.

And the even bigger issue is what happens to Moneypenny. Samantha Bond ended her run of it when Brosnan finished his run.

In Casino Royale, they could get away with no Q & Moneypenny, given the plot. However, if QOS has no Q and no Moneypenny, it's two HUGE thumbs down for me.

We both know where the current Moneypenny resides. ;)

Q and Moneypenny provided comic relief in the previous Bond movies. This Bond is much more serious, thus Q's and Moneypenny's characters may not fit in with the script. Plus, with Bond falling in love in the last film, and I think in this one he is recovering from his loss, Moneypenny would definitely not fit in with the script.

Just my $.04 (inflation ;)).

Lazenby and Dalton were poor.
Moore is in 3rd place for me.
Brosnan is in second place, JUST ahead of Moore (who loses points for staying on too long... VTAK and Octo).
Connery is #1... always will.

In contrast to Dr. Rosenrosen's comment, I really miss the interplay among all the characters, including Moneypenny & Q. And some of that interplay involved comedy, and some of it was just good old fashioned fun. I like the interaction among all of the actors.

I honestly didn't initially like Craig, mostly because he is so different, but also because I haven't seen him in enough scenes. And the screenplay he had wasn't much fun; serious, brooding, action, yes. I mean literallly, Craig was as serious as a heart attack. On the other hand, when watching it at home, I really felt much better about him, and I think BluRay will only help him. I am withholding judgment. I really am rooting for Craig, but I want to see more.

My thoughts on Craig are also affected by absolutely the worst movie experience ever when I went to see CR in the movies.

Rating on QOS, Jason?

There is talk of a Best Picture nomination.

Yes, I am serious.

Frankly, I think Changeling and Frost/Nixon are near mortal locks to get best pic nominations based on what I am hearing/reading. I am betting that Milk, The Road, and Benjamin Button will also get a lot of attention and hype for Best Pic (and Sean Penn is certain to get a Best Actor nod for Milk).

It is probably just hype, as I think the field is too crowded for a Bond film to sneak in there, but I have heard some chatter about QoS as the best Bond movie ever. I dunno. I also suspect that it will be hard for any mainstream action movie to get much attention for Best Pic as there will be a real push to nominate Dark Knight too.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the character interplay. Loved Q and MP. But I had grown weary of the ridiculousness of the "stunts" and one-liners. I know the connery flicks had a good bit of that but connery is connery and the schtick got very old. I was happy to see the more serious tone and far better production of Casino Royale.

Jaws versus OddJob. I would freakin' pay to see that matchup on film!!! Are there any other villains who even come close to those two?

I would have to go with OddJob as the best henchman because of his blind loyalty. I mean, he is trapped in Ft. Knox with the nuke and instead of trying to save his own life by letting Bond disable it, he chooses death by nuke as he tries to stop Bond. That's some awesome loyalty!

OTOH, Jaws actually betrayed Drax when he found out that Drax did not plan to include Jaws and his girlfriend in their future society. turning the indestructible Jaws into a full-fledged good guy may have been a fun moment but it pretty much disqualifies the big guy from the "greatest ever henchman" debate, ya know?

Are there other contenders? What about, Klebb, the spiked shoe lady in From Russia With Love?

FYI, Just call me "Alanis Morissless"?? WTF
Really, I'll settle for Eva Evermore instead! ha ha ha

PS, if you enter "Tilly Galore" you become "Verity Foxy"

I am Koskov.

And I'm married to Tiffany Kase.

Talk about a confusing lifestyle!

If you put in Ryan Breen, you get Eva Evermore.

I get Eva Evermore also...using my real name.

I think they have a pretty small set of names.

Entertainment Weekly has a Bond trivia quiz (http://www.ew.com/ew/game/voxpop/0,,,00.html?tv.voxpop.g=xrttrivia1)up on their site. A few are silly and some are very easy but more than half were thought-provoking. I got 20 out of 25 right though I freely admit that I guessed at 2 and got them right. Still, I like my score.

Check it out, my fellow Bond fans, and see how you do.

Thanks for posting this quiz. I did not fair as well you did (bad Tilly, bad). In fact, really screwed up an answer.

Very excited for Quantum of Solace. I've already got tickets for the Friday show at the Cinerama (http://www.cinerama.com/experience.html), which (as the link reveals) is an old 70mm theater in Seattle that was about to shut down before Paul Allen stepped in, bought it up, and totally tricked it out. It's actually been briefly closed for the last three weeks while they put in newer and comfier seats, so I'll be one of the first to sit in the new ones!

I expect zoo-like crowds at QOS, so I will go later in the weekend or maybe even the following one.

Real reason why I may not go this weekend: ILJ has strep throat.

Cheers,
Lavabe

Yeah, the tickets for the show I'm going to were sold out by Monday (I got them last Thurs.). It will be a zoo, but it will be fun.

Please provide adequate spoiler alert warnings on posts about QOS.

What is the proper format? Message in white text on white background? or should it be in a separate thread?

Thanks,

I tried getting tix for a showing at Streets at Southpoint. As of today, the only showing they have scheduled is 12:01 a.m. Tilly will not be awake enough to watch it then.

Just called the theater, they will be showing QoS 14 times. Will buy tix as soon as I can. :D:D:D:D

I am so excited!!!!!!

Have they cleaned up the gang problems there, yet?

I would think a thread of it's own, that way you and others will be able to avoid spoilers. I think if we add it into this thread you would run the risk of reading something you didn't want to.

Jason, your thoughts since you're a mod? No offense to the other mods, just have seen you post in this thread. Still love you. :D

It's pretty safe over there.

The only reason I tend to stay way from Southpoint are the crowds, but I really like the theater, and it's really close to my place. If it were any other movie, I'd wait for a more convenient time.

P.S. Cavlaw, sorry for excluding in my note to Jason. Had forgotten you've posted here too.

Yup, I will even start the thread.

Thank you very much, Jason!

There's nothing worse than when someone gives away the plot. It happened to me in the movies the last time when I went to see Casino Royale. HORRIBLE!!
