For some reason my E-mails to my parents' MSN address are bouncing this morning. I've tried a few different things, including sending test messages, and everything is bouncing. Nothing in the E-mails is spammy (in fact part of the discussion is Duke basketball).
Grrrr. Microsoft hates Google and all, but this sucks.

Umm... perhaps MSN is part of the Duke Hatred Tsunami?;)

Hmmm... maybe Melinda made Bill sleep on the couch last night and Bill's revenge is to bounce anything with "Duke" in it.
I can E-mail them from my work address just fine.

I can 99.99% guarantee that MSN/Windows Live/Hotmail is not intentionally blocking Gmail.
Did they amp up the aggressiveness of a Spam filter? Perhaps. Does your gmail address seem rather, umm, generic/spammy? It may be the sender, not the content.
A more likely scenario is that MS's servers were/are acting up. If it is a more widespread issue, this is a Pri-0, all-hands-on-deck level of 'oops.' Those anti-trust overlords, I mean overlookers, seem to frown on MS not playing nice with the other kids in the online services sandbox.

My Gmail address is my last name @gmail.com. And no, my last name is neither "Viagara" nor "Spears". My work E-mail seems to go through fine, and the left-hand part of my work address is very similar to my Gmail address.
M$N is blocking even test messages for me; that is, nothing but the word "test" in the title. I am still getting blocked as of a minute ago.
This has never happened before, and my folks have had their address for years.
It may be the sender, not the content.
Yeah, that must be it. Microsoft screws up and it's all my fault. But hey, I'm sure I can upgrade to Vista or somesuch and it'll be all OK, right?

Is it showing up in their spam folder? Is it bouncing back to you? No response at all?

:) SFW as far as I'm concerned, but the title of the story is "Microsoft Releases Dirty Santa Chatbot On Unsuspecting Children!"

It's bouncing. The reponse is as follows:
Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 12): 550 SC-001 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. Reasons for rejection may be related to content with spam-like characteristics or IP/domain reputation problems. Whoa, I was just trying to offer some help/direction, and ask some basic troubleshooting questions. Touchy much?
What I meant by "it may be the sender" wasn't a personal thing, just a recognition that it could be something on Google's end that's triggering a spam response. I was even going to PM you for more information, and see what more I could find out on this end, but I get the sense you'd rather bitch and moan, so never mind, no assistance wanted, no assistance offered.
However, for others who might encounter something along these lines, you might want to confirm that the email recipient hasn't inadvertently reported you as spam or set a more stringent filter recently.
Also, it appears there is a known issue on Google's end that their email servers occasionally get flagged as SPAM generators: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=26904
which would explain why Windows Live mail would block it. There's quite a bit of chatter on the Google groups about this error cropping up recently. There's also some talk that short "test" messages are much more likely to get flagged as Spam. YMMV.

hijacking this thread, but anyone else notice gmail's new colored label feature today? At least I think this was implemented today. I'm going nuts with these color labels, though I don't see why I'm even doing this since most of these labeled emails are going in the archive anyway :-p

its true!!!
my girlfriend (ex, ha) had a hotmail account at MSN
i did an experiment, i opened my GMail account on her PC, then i sent multiple GMails to her, and she would never recieve them!!!
This and yet she could send emails to me.
It didnt happen all the time, with all MSN users...
but i have heard similar stories
In summation, i believe Microsoft blocks a certain % of Gmails, or so it seems...
the matrix has you...

It may be that your gmail email address has been co-opted by bad people and they're using it as the return address on spam spam spam spam. I don't know how the various ISPs handle such situations, but I do know it happens a lot and is a serious problem.

It's possible that your girlfriend's account had her junkmail filters on a high setting (mail doesn't even get delivered to "junk," just goes straight to the e-trashbin of the sky.) Since you opened new gmail accounts, those addresses likely weren't in her address book, or recognized by Hotmail/MSN as being 'known' accounts, and may have gotten caught as Spam.
MSFT would never block the entire GMail domain, but it can and should block mail coming from suspicious accounts (especially considering that approx. 9 out of 10 webmail accounts created are for the purpose of spamming.)

Looks like Google isn't helping much; their link for admins is worthless.
If you are an email administrator, learn more (http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=27642) about what you can do to make sure Gmail messages are delivered to your users.
