This should be a great game. Glad I've got Dish HD. Unfortunately, Gumbel and Collinsworth are announcers for the NFL Network.

Go Farvomo!

I may be wrong, but I think only Dish and Direct TV get the NFL network.

Well Dang Nabbit!

There goes my TV watching plans. Maybe I'll just put in a Star Trek DVD. That really sucks.

I get the NFL Network through Verizon FIOS. I think I read in an article that the NFL Network is available in only 35 million homes, though.

In today's USAToday in the Sports section, the cover story was about this very game and the power play of the NFL is making against the cable companies. I have not found a link to the story. Maybe the NFL has somehow hidden it to protect its power play. None of the networks that have TV contracts with the NFL have any access to the Dallas/Greenbay game. I think the NFL may have screwed the pooch on this one. I am sure that it will be a big issue when contracts are re-negotiated.

Yeah, the Packers lost, but that was a really well played game off the bench. Maybe the post Favre era won't be so bad for Green Bay fans.

The game was available overseas on AFN.

The game was available overseas on AFN.

More specifically, AFN-Sports. Since if it was on AFN-Prime I could have watched it(well, taped it anyway, since of course, it was while I was teaching).

Of course it was available to watch on the NFL website (http://www.nfl.com) which wasn't too bad.

Aaron Rodgers is one of the Jeff Tedford quarterbacks from Cal. He had a huge free fall in the draft a few years ago - projected as a top 3-5 pick and ended up with the Packers in the 20s. It was an excellent pick for Green Bay, and he's done nothing but learn from Favre for the past few seasons. He should step in next year and be on close to all cylinders right from the get-go.

That was one of the takeaways for me from this game. Aaron Rodgers is really good. I was extremely impressed with his poise in the pocket - he didn't get rattled or fidgety when he got pressure and his throws were very precise with an Elway-like zip. I like this guy and look forward to seeing him when he gets a chance to start.

But for this season I hope the Favre magic carpet ride continues.

My biggest takeaway was that the NFL Network's sound engineering was awful. You could barely hear the crowd cheering after a touchdown.

It might just have been your ears bleeding from the Bryant Gumbel experience. He makes Costas sound exciting.

No argument there. Collinsworth is good, but needs someone to banter with. Gumbel sounds like he's on valium.

Seriously, though, did anyone else notice how unatmospheric the general sound on the broadcast was? The ambient sound felt like it was being picked up by an underground microphone or something.
