Here we go with the second pod of girls. Unfortunately, there were not nearly as many girl names recommended as boy names, so this will be the last girl first round pod.

Hate to absolutely dash a name for you, but Christina Gail sounds too close for comfort to Crystal Gail You-Know-Who for me.
Love, Ima
PS in light of today's golf scores maybe you should have twin girls and name them Amanda and Alison.

None of the ones on this poll excite me. If you're having a girl, there is only one way to go. CAMERON!

The girl list is a little disappointing. I only got thirteen suggestions, so to even get it up to 16 to have two first round pods, I had to combine a few that I liked. By contrast, I got like 30 boy names right off the bat. If you have any more girl suggestions, I'd be happy to entertain them. I was originally hoping for more girl names, as I said in my original post that I just didn't follow the women's sports as much at Duke. Are there any famous women's golf/softball/volleyball/soccer/swimming/lacrosse etc. participants, past or present?

I didn't see Georgia, as in Georgia Schweitzer.

Apologies if this has been mentioned and shot down, but one of the nicest women I ever encountered at Duke was Ali (Alison) Day. She was a top notch bball player, plus smart and attractive.
Did I see Kerstin (Kirsten?) Kimmel anywhere on the list?
Please don't even think about Nannerl.

There has been an Allison, but I hadn't heard a Georgia. As for Nan, my original thread asking for suggestions had a few rules. One of them said the I was class of '97, so anyone suggesting Nannerl will be laughed at. Privately, I told myself that I would ignore any others of their suggestions just on basic principle. :D

no kerstin or kirsten's either. I might add some in later if I get enough suggestions. Didn't we have a few good female golfers and soccer players a few years ago?

Ha, class of '97 here too.
As for women's golfers, Amanda (Blumenhurst) has already been named.
The 2002 NCAA Women's Golf champion was a Dukie, but somehow I don't think Virada Nirapathpongporn (http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=22564&SPID=1838&DB_OEM_ID=4200&ATCLID=1212823&Q_SEASON=2003)Cadugan will win many votes. :D

Cameron, Cameron, Cameron. It's a no-brainer.

Have you and your wife chosen names for your future Duke graduate?

but we DID find out at the ultrasound a few days ago that we are, indeed, getting a girl to go with our two boys. My wife is leaning towards Katherine. Are there any good Katherine's that go with Duke?
Speaking of which, I need to ressurect the polls. I think I'm going to remove the Christian Grant name from the boy poll, declaring it the winner, and try to declare second and third place names, since C.G. is just so badly running away with every poll.

several faculty and staff members, some of whom have big works, named Catherine or Katherine, when I google Katherine and Duke University.

There's a Miss Katie Ness who seems to be a big deal in swimming.

I think I'm going to remove the Christian Grant name .
First, congrats on learning "IT'S A GIRL!!!"
Second, so what's wrong with "Christianne" or "Christina" and followed by the name of "Grante", or otherwise dressed up? Just a thought

Congrats on knowing that you're expecting a girl! Mine has had me wrapped around her pinky for the last 12 years. ENJOY!!
I voted for Abby, but IIRC, didn't your wife object to it?
If there's no objection, then it has to be: ABBY!
Perhaps give a middle initial of "P"?
Cheers and congrats,

Congrats, bjornolf! It's a girl!!!
I had been thinking about bumping this thread up, as I was very curious about the status, so thanks to Tilly for doing so. If you like Katherine, I say... go for it!!! Surely there are some famous Katherines who went to Duke.
I'm assuming you still want your daughter to be named after a sports figure. But if you're willing to just go with a famous Dukie, I sort of like Annabeth, after the famous Duke movie actress, Annabeth Gish. But I love Katherine, and ultimately, you and your wife have to be 100% happy with the final decision.

about getting a third Duke name in a row, especially with a girl and since she TOTALLY gave me the Duke name on our second. So, I basically just thought this would be a fun poll and let people know what Duke names there are out there for both girls and boys. Somebody DID suggest a Katherine or Catherine, I noticed. It's a middle name in the poll on this thread. However, they never told me where the name came from. Does anybody know where the Duke connection lies? :D

How about K. P. - fits Duke and is can be construed as sexist at the same time! :)
