You know what to do by now. If not, see the stickied thread at the top of the off-topic board.

Man, I was first to vote. Posting this ruins my chance to be anonymous.
Just noticed that Hoop Dreams didn't make it through...that would be the only movie I would have voted for not in the semis.

Hoop Dreams made it through. It is in Group 4 in the semi-finals. I have high hopes it might even make the finals. It is a truly amazing doc.
Also, it does not matter if you vote first or last, all the votes are public. Just click on the number of votes and you will see how everyone has voted.

Thanks wasn't paying attention and somehow had it in my head that there would only be two semi-final rounds...

Hmmmm.
RThomas and Indoor66 - care to explain your votes? You're the only ones so far that HAVEN'T voted for "Hoosiers", and I'm curious as to why.
Given that this is a basketball board, I'm fully expecting "Hoosiers" to walk away with the final prize, and I'm surprised whenever it doesn't get a vote.

Even if this wasn't a basketball board, Hoosiers would be a STRONG contender to win the overall title... don't ya think, JB?

Absolutely. IMO, "Hoosiers" is a very good movie, and one of the best sports movies ever, but given the competition in this poll, I could see someone who prefers other sports voting for other films. However, given the natural bent of DBR readers, I'm surprised when someone here DOESN'T vote for it.
And "The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh" is a movie best forgotten by everyone - even obsessive basketball fans. (Maybe especially obsessive basketball fans. Ugh.)

Of course Hoosiers is a great movie, but if/when it comes up against Hoop Dreams, it loses my vote (not that I expect that to affect the overall outcome).
Personally, I'm still lamenting The Mighty Ducks' elimination.

I'll have a three horse race between Hoop Dreams, Hoosiers, and Field of Dreams...not sure how I will settle it.

Oh yeah, forgot about Field of Dreams. The two "Dreams" films are my top 2. I suspect other people's votes will render that debate moot, though; I don't see them both getting to the finals over Hoosiers (though I'm not sure what sort of format Jason has in mind for the finals).

From the Stickied thread at the top of the board:
The top 2 in each poll plus the top 3 other vote getters (wild cards) will advance to the finals where we will have one poll with one vote for the top sports film of all time!!
We have 4 semi-final polls going on now. That will give us 8 automatic qualifiers plus 3 wild cards for an 11-movie final poll. You will only get one vote in the final poll.
At least that is how I am leaning at the moment. It might be kinda fun to give multiple-choice votes in the next poll ("the finals") and then have the top 2 or top 3 face off in one more poll where you get only a single vote. Anyone care how we do it?

Ooooh-- or here is a fun idea: We do a multiple-choice thing on the top-11 (the ones who qualify from this round). Based on total votes in that poll, we seed films 1-through-8 and have a little single-elimination playoff among the top 8.
I am really liking that idea.

Go for it. Hoops is still a ways off.

Yes. <eom>......

I'll be both shocked and dismayed if "HOOSIERS" doesn't win this thing - convincingly.
But your point about this being a basketball board certainly didn't help one of my other favorites - "PISTOL". Great, great movie that didn't get the exposure most of the others did. Nevertheless I thought it would do better than it did.

I would even go so far as to propose adding exit polls after each individual poll is done, along with detailed analysis and lively debate. Actually though, I like your idea. Some heads-up matches. I'm guessing this contest would be finished within a few weeks, so there should still be plenty of interest. If interest does happen to wane somewhat, maybe close the polls after 40 votes unless the candidates are neck and neck.

I actually have not seen any of these, so I'd be voting blind...I'll wait until round 3

Please don't throw rotten veggies or fruits at me for what I'm about to post.
I did not vote for Hoosiers. Why? I've only seen it once, and didn't think it was worth the hype. Course, I did come in half way through the movie so I guess technically I haven't really seen the movie.
I will not vote for something I haven't seen, thus cast my vote for Rudy (I love that movie!!!), League of Their Own, National Velvet, and I can't remember the fourth one (and I just cast my vote, how sad).

Agreed, I wouldn't vote for a movie I hadn't seen, or only seen halfway through.
I have a 6th sense about these things so I'm guessing that your 4th movie was.... KARATE KID. Speaking of which, I liked the movie, but found the finale to be disappointing. As soon as he KO's his opponent, he raises his arms and the movie ends. No celebration, no time to savor the moment. Kind of a let down after a pretty decent buildup. Just my take on it, anyway.

You're absolutely correct, that is the 4th movie I voted for.
I agree with you about the ending. Wish they'd asked us how we think the movie should have ended. Oh well!
