I've never seen a better infield play than Scott Rolen diving to his right on Wednesday, landing on his back, raising his torso just a little off the ground and throwing out a fast baserunner (Billy Hall) at first. That takes arm strength of the highest magnitude.

The DBacks need to move Micah Owings to first base, and maybe yesterday's performance against the Braves will get them thinking. I saw him play a couple of times for a top-ranked Tulane team two years ago, when he was the cleanup hitter and number one pitcher. I liked his bat better than his arm. He will be a serviceable pitcher in MLB for 12 years, but as a hitter he could be something special.

Had a nice outing today, 17 K's. I couldn't believe Owings was the pitcher when I saw the box score. 3 HR's in 44 at bats, also. He could bat #8 for the RedBirds!

The Rolen play was exceptional. I've seen third basemen throw a batter/runner out at first from his knees but never while sitting down.

I guess it is worth mentioning that John Smoltz blew past Phil Niekro yesterday to become the all-time strikeout leader for the Braves...

Not just the Atlanta Braves... but the Milwaukee and Boston Braves too. Since they were the Boston Red Caps in 1876, no one wearing a Braves uniform has struck out more batters than John Smotlz. He is above Niekro, Warren Spahn, Glavine, Maddux, Johnny Sain, and all the others. Considering he missed some time to injury and he spent a few years compiling fewer saves as a reliever, that's impressive.
