An insider has informed me Duke is #8 in the 2008 edition to come out soon, right behind MIT and in front of Columbia.

For reference, last year's:

1. Princeton
2. Harvard
3. Yale
4. Cal
4. Stanford
4. MIT
7. Penn
8. Duke
9. Dartmouth
9. Columbia
9. Chicago

Columbia has apparantly "jumped" Darmouth, so I'm guessing it goes 1-6 Pr,Ha,Ya,Ca,St,Pe in some order, then 7. MIT 8. Duke 9. Columbia 10. Dartmouth.

You forgot to shake your fist in the air and tell the students to get off your damn (quad) lawn Jason.;)

When did you graduate?

I think we were like #6 when I was there (Class of 1993.) So, we are slipping. Must be the lacrosse thing and Broadhead.

(Just kidding. FDA made me do it.)

I just don't think high schools are preparing kids for college.

Shall we add this "Broadhead" dude to the spelling sticky?;)

Umm... "CAL" is #3, or is it "CalTech?"

Thanks,

Oops. That must be why we were #6 when I was there, and THEN jumped to #3 when I left.

In fairness, I am still traumatized by Jenna Bush's departure from the meat market.

I went from 1985-89. We were #3 when I entered school and we had been on the cover of US News as "The Hot College". I am not sure what number we were in '89 when I left.

The hot college cover was NY Times Magazine.

IMO rankings are not worth worrying about - it is one opinion based on one algorithm. School - and life - is what you make of it.

Jason - how could you walk uphill both ways to/from class, if you never went to class? :-)

I have no idea what Duke was ranked when I was rejected during my senior year of high school in 1977 :) . Fortunately for me, the U.S. Navy and school of hard knocks considered me exceptionally qualified!

Chart of top-25.

Surprising that our "Peer Assessment" is lower than that of Chicago or Cornell...

USN&WR college rankings began in '83, skipped '84, then started again in '85.

Silly me, when I hear rankings, I think BASKETBALL! ;)
