"Couric second-guesses CBS move some days
Yesterday at 10:48 am
Katie Couric says the move to CBS would have been less appealing if she had known she'd be doing the more traditional "CBS Evening News" broadcast that she anchors now.
"People are very unforgiving and very resistant to change," Couric said in an interview with New York magazine. "The biggest mistake we made is we tried new things."
Couric's move to CBS has been a bust so far. The evening newscast's ratings are deep in third place, and CBS has rolled back some of the changes it made last fall to shake up the format. Couric conducts fewer interviews, an outside opinion segment was scrapped and the anchor admits she's even dressing down a little to give her critics less ammunition."

Didn't she slap somebody the other day? I'll see if I can find the article.

Above is a link to a story about Katie slapping someone. Turns out she has issues with the word "sputum".

Pun intended, especially in light of the Photoshopping incident?

I think KC is OK. But TV network news isn't. In its heyday 30-40 years ago, it was important. Now, I bet only a tiny fraction of people under 50 watch (just notice what gets advertised on the broadcasts), and those who do don't learn that much from it.
It's not good to be "deep in third place," but I'm guessing that first place isn't all that hot, either.

Wow. Poor girl. I guess she'll be unable to tell her doctor what color, the next time she goes in for a nagging cough. If he asks her, she'll probably slap him/her.
Moreover, there is now a sputum test for lung cancer precursors. That's likely to come up in a news story some day. Wonder how she'll handle it.
Maybe, Katie, news is not your thing. Sputum is a word which is perfectly acceptable in polite society. In fact all clinical words are acceptable. You should be prepared to read those words in your copy if you want to get the information to the public.

I can't tell you the last time I watched the network evening news (I'm barely under 50) 90% of my news comes from the internet (MSNBC,CNN et al) and very little from TV unless there is a major world event going on. That way I can skip items that don't interest me at all (Paris Hilton/Anna Nicole Smith) and spend my time on those that do.
Once upon a time the evening news was a fixture in my house but that was when your choices were a) network broadcasts b)radio and c) daily newspaper. Now that I have information available when I want it (and what I want) I can't see ever going back to watching it on a regular basis.
As an unrelated aside my daughter (19) and her friends all watch Anderson Cooper - he's a rock star in her college crowd (??!!??) they think he's hot. Really.

Personally, I think it's been downhill for Cooper since The Mole, but I can see the appeal.
