We had a new Murphy Express gas station open on Wednesday. Their business philosophy is to have the lowest price around. Yesterday, they were $2.51. At lunch today, they were $2.43. I got gas at 5:00 pm at $2.39. This is the price a few minutes ago at 9:10 pm.
The Hess station up the street is also at $2.35, which means that next hour (they (Murphy) survey hourly) it'll be lower! Tomorrow we may be down under $2.00! Gotta love it!

This story in USA TODAY (http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/energy/2010-07-01-gas-tax_N.htm) may give us some additional news about gas prices.

Yeah, just stopped at a Murphy's outside Mebane. They were cheaper than nearby stations and had a nice convenience store.
Apparently, Murphy's used to run stations in conjunction with Walmart, and started building stand-alone convenience store/gas opeations in 2006. I'm all for saving some on gas.

I watch the ticker on CNBC, and they include the RBOB price in the rotation. RBOB is the wholesale price of unleaded gasoline on one of the markets. The cheapest prices (price war above excluded!) in our area average 50 to 60 cents above the RBOB, with a 2 to 3 week delay on the way up and longer on the down. The price had gotten down to the $1.80 range a few months ago, then inched up to above $2.20 last month or in May. This week it has dropped below $2.00/gallon, so political upheaval events aside, prices should be easing everywhere for a while. But I'll take my little price war for as long as it lasts! :D

Dang, can we get one of those out here? I paid $3.05 for the cheap stuff this week, and that was at one of the known lower priced places around.

If your local Costco sells gas (and you are a member) you can probably save 10-12 cents per gallon. Drive a Little, Save a Lot (used car salesman talk).

Same with BJ's gas. Here in South Florida, BJ's is anywhere from 3¢ to 15¢ cheaper than other outlets.

Those prices are amazing, considering NC has some of the highest gasoline taxes in the nation. (Those who live very close to VA already know that!)

If you keep driving by there enough, your tank will soon be empty and you'll need to fill up again, probably for about $2.00 or less, depending how many times you make the trip:rolleyes:;).

Gee, where did I read that before? Hmmm. BTW, the station is ~1.3 miles from my house, right across the street from Angelo's, not far from Sami's. Stop by on your way back from the beach on Monday!
Price after dinner is $2.21.

You (should have;)) read it here first. Anything else must just be crazietalk:rolleyes::D.
I am on call this weekend but heading to the coast early Monday AM. Perhaps a short detour up route 701 on the way home Tuesday night for a cheese steak and some cheep gas. It might be a buck fifty per gallon by that time:rolleyes:.

Price after dinner is $2.21...., and that's in spite of the much higher NC gasoline taxes, too.

IIRC there's some sort of law that says a new gas station can sell gas at below cost for X amount of time in order to attract business and all stations within an X mile radius can follow suit to stay competitive. This is purely anecdotal, but I seem to remember a story on the news about an SC station doing this a little over a year ago. This was after oil had fallen sharply from $140+ to $30-$40, so most stations in the area were selling gas for around $1.30-$1.40. The new place, though, set its price at 89 cents. I'll try to find a link.

$2.18 this morning at Murphy. http://www.crazietalk.net/ourhouse/images/smilies/4.gif :D The BP seems to have given up as it's still at $2.32. I didn't check the Hess 1/4 mile down the road, but I'll bet it's at $2.19.
