Has anyone been watching this show? The last 3 episodes have been the best television of 2009 in my opinion. Better than Mad Men and Lost.

I skipped out on the first season because I'm not all that into biker culture, but caught the first episode this season and was hooked.

Katey Sagal, Charlie Hunnam and the actor that plays Opie all deserve GGs or Emmy nods.

Anyway, I figured this board could use yet another TV discussion thread....

It's on FX, so I kinda lumped it in with Nip/Tuck, Rescue Me, the Shield when I first heard about it. Probably interesting, but too over the top to be anything of substance. And it does have some shock value to it since it's on FX.

But the writing and the acting is top notch. There are some "extreme" moments, but I don't feel like the show is as voyeuristic or shocking just to be shocking as Nip/Tuck or the Shield. When something crazy happens, it fits in with the plot.

What's been amazing, is that other Peggy Bundy and Ron Perlman, it's a cast full of "THAT GUYS" who just kill it episode after episode.

I've been watching it on and off but I can't see how it could be possibly be better than Mad Men. Mad Men is making a run for best show of all time (creeping up steadily on The Wire) and this season was probably Mad Men's best yet. But I'll be watching SOA's last few episodes, looking forward to it.

I agree it is a great show. Terrific character development. Comparing and contrasting the ethics, emotions and reactions of motorcycle gang members makes for interesting screen writing. Further, the writers don't just stick to the "good" bad guys killing "bad" bad guys. They take their time in revealing layers of the various characters. I find the development of the doctor, Tara, the vp Jax's old lady, to be brilliant, leading to an amusing hospital confrontation.

I did have to do some research to find that SAMCRO stands for Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original chapter.

I did not enjoy the episodes where everything was going to crap, it got rather dark, but they were compelling and the payoff was worth it, and the plot not overly contrived.

Can't wait for tomorrow night. One of the things that has been amazing about this show considering how much plot is involved and the nature of the characters, is that most of the major conflicts this season (within SAMCRO itself at least) weren't solved through plot contrivances or deux es machina, but through internal character development.

-Tig's confession to Opie
-Opie letting the club off the hook for Donna (at least temporarily)
-Gemma's reveal about her rape (in the best scene in the show's brief run so far)
- Clay's forgiveness of Piney shooting at him and the club's forgiveness of Chibs talking to the feds.

Now, the whole bringdown of LOAN last week was pretty plot driven, which is fine - those are temporary characters. I am a little worried that everything worked out too neat last week. May be a shocking final episode tomorrow.

I've watched every episode this season and need to get the DVD for last season. Awesome show, great writing, great acting, never know what will happen next. In the East, it comes on FX at 10PM, 11PM and 1AM (actually Wed) on Tuesdays, then available on-demand on Sundays-please note I'm a comcast customer, so it may differ elsewhere. I haven't followed a running show like this for a very long time.
