View Full Version : A Chronicle/Mac/Firefox question

Ever since I got my MacBook (almost a year ago), I've had a Firefox problem when trying to access the Duke Chron's website. It doesn't happen on the Safari browser, so I'm not sure what the problem is.
But...the Chron -- from an empty tab, only opens up about a quarter of the screen on the left side. I can't drag it or expand it.
And if I try to access it from a tab which already has a webpage on it, the Chron portion takes up that same quarter of a page space while leaving the previous page on the remaining three quarters.
Is this a Firefox setting thing or does the Chron page need some fixing? It doesn't happen on any other website
Any ideas?

Jim,
I am sorry to say that I don't have any ideas, but there is hope! I have the same combination (Macbook+Firefox) and I don't have any viewing issues with the page.
I take it that The Chronicle is the only page that gives you this problem?

What version of Firefox? I don't see what you are describing with version 3.5.4

That's the version I am using as well.

3.0.3 -- AFAIK, that is the most recent download that has been automatically provided. Whatever the version, I've had this problem over several so far. The upgrades didn't change that.
However, I will manually upgrade to 3.5.* and see if that helps. I'll be back if it doesn't.

Well this is weird. I went to the Mozilla Firefox page and downloaded Firefox 3.5. And, naturally, it gave me the Firefox 3.5 dmg file. When I opened it and loaded the program it began operating fine -- EXCEPT it says it is Firefox 3.0.4 and it recommends I download the 3.5
Go figure.
And the Chronicle page still has the problem.

It is obviously a conspiracy against you. You might check with your neighbors and see if it a Bay area issue. :o:D

i don't use firefox, so i went to whatever version i had (turned out to be 3.0.7) and opened the page without problem..
at the risk of sounding like time warner cable, try emptying your cache and then typing the url into the address box (in case you've been using a bookmark)
this doesn't happen with safari?

I cleared the cache. When I type the URL into the browser, the Chron comes in OK. When I use the bookmark, the problem appears.

There you go. You have too many bookmarks.;) Seriously, check the version your actually working. Click on help, then in the menu click on About Mozilla Firefox. It should tell you the version, but it may not be the same on a Mac. My version is 3.5.4. Your download could have simply failed. Pretty regular occurrence on a PC. Tell me it's true about a Mac, also

ditch that bookmark, type the url into the addy, and then RE-book mark it.
sometimes, a site gets a bug attatched to it....this happend to me some time ago, whenever i used google or the bookmark, it did some weird stuff.....but when i typed it into the addy bar, it worked fine...
or, hold your mouth differently,,,,,,, :)
