I have been real busy the past few days so I did not have time to post this before the latest Transformers movie came out.
It is going to be huge-- probably north of $130 million by the end of its opening weekend -- but that does not mean it is good. I mostly enjoyed the first film and this one was not even close to that flick. I found the new film long, loud, and the story was mostly nonsensical. It tried like 4 or 5 different plots and seemed to abandon or pick them up at various times that were hard to follow. The first hour and a half was really random and scattershot. It seemed to get a little more focus in the final hour, though the storyline they eventually went with was pretty weak. The film featured lots of long, drawn-out battle scenes that are hard to follow. I found I really did not care who won these battles nor could I tell who was winning until one side or another ran away and the victors talked about being victorious. Blech!
Anyway, I strongly recommend saving your moviegoing dollars for some thing else.
You can listen to my latest radio appearance (http://multimedia.790thezone.com/m/23314195/jason-evans.htm) which featured some comments on Transformers. I had prepared to say a lot more about it but the radio hosts could tell it stunk and they were more interested in talking about Hangover (again) and Public Enemies (which I have not yet seen but am dying to see).

I just watched Transformers with my young teenage son and I would have to say that I agree with most of what you say, but I also really think it is not aimed at my demographic.
I did like the slomo shots of Megan Fox running in a tank top but that was about all.

The first one was pretty bad, and it was pretty obvious that this one would be too.
Then again, Michael Bay is maybe the single worst director in all of Hollywood, so who is surprised? Everything he has done has been total and complete trash. Bad Boys II was maybe the most unwatchable piece of crap I've ever been forced to sit through, and Pearl Harbor was just a notch below it. In fact, "The Rock" is the only decent film he has made, outside of the Playmate video for Kerry Kendall, who will always have a place in my heart.

My 17 year old son saw Transformers 2 on Wednesday and came home raving about how fantastic it was. So yesterday he and I went to see it, his second veiwing. I thought the movie seemed to be basically a continuation of the first movie. There was a lot of action, but in the end, I just didn't enjoy it as much. The first Transformers had a much better story line. 2's story line just seemed to meander all over the place. Megan Fox still looks hot. :)

So, I knew I would have a tough time getting the wife to this, as she hated the first one (I thought it was OKAY when I first saw it -- repeats on HBO gave me more of an appreciation for it).
Anyway, we're watching Ms. Fox on some talk show and she has a clip of the movie. I'm thinking, cool, if it's good, maybe I can convince the mrs. to go down to IMAX with me and see it.
Ohmygawwwwd!!! It was AWFUL!!! There was some miniature decepticon giving an on-going commentary while looking for a way out of the toolshed, insulting the dog, and then getting captured by Fox. Ummmm, helloooooo!!!! Even little decepticons are bad-asses. A bare handed capture by the teenage girl? I don't think so.
At the end of the clip, I had to sheepishly look away as the wife was saying "No $#@%$# WAY are we seeing THAT!"
Talk about a let-down. What a lame summer to date. Except for Star Trek, nothing big has been worth it. At this point, I'm hoping that Holmes can at east salvage something outside of HP.

I was thoroughly disappointed. The first one kept me on the edge of my seat, this one kept me looking at my watch. Like Jason said, there was no real plot development ...some things happened, some other things happened, other wild coincidences happened...a robot that I couldnt recognize died...etc etc etc.

I hated it too, and was tempted to walk out, but the theatre I went to has such comfortable chairs!
I enjoyed the original, to my surprise. I knew nothing about Transformers when I went to see the original. It was at the $3 theatre, and I am willing to take risks for $3. I remember the original as somewhat humorous.
There wasn't enough humor in the sequel, though. And my big complaint is that each of the autobots and deceptocons had tens of thousands of metal parts, and you couldn't really distinguish one's arm from the other's leg, or even one's arm from that same one's leg, whenever there was movement. The fight scenes to me were nothing but swirls of metal parts, and I got really tired of looking at that.

How many of you guys saw the cartoon? It's a movie about robots beating the hades out of each other. I thought it was great for action but like Jason said there were some scenes where it was literally just sensory overload and I couldn't really follow (like when Optimus tore the dog in half). Other times it was slow just to create some kind of fodder for the humans. The whole decepticon as woman was a reach but it was not entirely unbelievable for "RC Truck" to be harmless b/c not only DID they switch sides in the cartoons but both side had equally inept and useless soldiers - or should I say - "specialty" soldiers. Like the microscope guy for the Autobots.
Honestly if they would have just gotten rid of those twins or at least made them more Ren/Stimpy or Pinky/Brain then they wouldn't have been so annoying and insulting.

A post from a facebook friend this morning:
Transformers was awesome!! Very intense, a lot of action (translation...loud)....some military violence....but it was really good I thought! Also, if you get a chance to see "Knowing" it is really good (Nicholas Cage...Sci-fi...suspense...futuristic) was great
Aye caramba!!!!
The Knowing had to be one of the worst movies I've seen in a longggg time.
I wish I could warn people, but I don't want to be a hater (unlike my persona here)...

I recently saw Knowing at a local bargain theater. I liked it until the last 10-15 minutes. It was very suspensefull, but the ending was so hokey, I could never recommend anyone seeing it.
