View Full Version : RIP Duke Law Prof. Robinson O. Everett
Since I was surprised not to read about it here (not sure why - apparently I come to DBR for all Duke-related news now?) I thought I'd let others know that Prof. Everett passed away yesterday. Here's the news (http://www.law.duke.edu/news/story?id=3508&u=11).
Judge Everett had a fascinating legal career, and having had the chance to spend some time with him I can say that he was one of the most generous people I've ever met, in every sense of that word.

Condolences to the family. Robinson was a teacher, colleague and friend.
I was fortunate to have known his parents, having crossed swords with Mrs. Everett on a number of occasions. She and Mr. Everett were always a delight to be around.
Robbie was always the product of his parents - a gentleman and considerate advocate. The legal profession has lost one of it's best members.

The Everetts are the stuff of story and legend in Durham. Kathrine Everett pushed the boundaries set to limit women and did so graciously, but firmly. Reuben Everett was no less impressive in his career and stature in the community. Their daily conversations at the parking meter each day were a part of the fabric of daily life in downtown Durham years ago.
Robbie O., their son, accomplished so much in so many areas of the law. I remember the sense of awe I heard in the comments from law students who took his classes. His wife Lynn is both kind and gracious. I had the opportunity to get to know her while doing my student teaching when they were newlyweds.
Cameron won't be the same without Robbie O. seated near some other longstanding faculty members who've watched Duke play for decades.
Duke has lost another legend.

I am truly saddened by this news and, obviously, I extend my deep condolences to Judge Everett's family, friends and colleagues. While many in our Duke community know him for his brilliant, long-term work on our Law School's faculty, he also served the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Military Appeals. I can remember a number of Duke Football games where we were seated together, and (Duke Football not being overly riveting during most of the last fifteen years) we would discuss the uniqueness of military culture and their legal ramifications. He was a very fine gentlemen and an exceptionally perceptive individual, who served our nation and Duke University with real distinction.
