This last Friday I was invited to submit some paintings to an art show here in Carteret County, with a deadline of submittal by 4 earlier today. Luckily we made it back in time from the triangle to get my paintings framed and turned in, so I will have three pieces in the show. The cool thing about showing up late was that I got to see most of the other works that will be hung, there is some really amazing stuff, and a lot of it.
The event is called Art From The Heart 2009 (http://accc.wordpress.com/), and is sponsored by the Carteret County Arts Council. Artists from 4 counties total will be showing, media include painting, photography and sculpture. The show runs from February 13th to the 28th. The opening is Friday the 13th () from 6 until 8pm. You can find all the info here (http://accc.wordpress.com/) if anyone is close enough to come check it out. If you do make it, feel free to swing by Arts & Things (http://www.arts-things.com/default.htm) gallery where I have some pieces too. And of course let me know you're in town, no fun to find out after the fact that a DBR person passed through after the fact!

I was pondering that too. I don't think we are allowed the Ymm, marijauna thread.

I'm so excited about the opening! We'll have mini-Brunchgate at the beach! My brother will be joining Stephen and me at the opening. I'll have to see about getting some more folks up to Morehead City. Fun!

We just had lunch at a great place for after-opening dinner. It's called Beach Bumz, has burgers, subs, pasta, homemade potato chips...and tons of excellent beers to choose from.

Awesome to hear Jake will make it. I talked to one of the organizers today, she told me about 300 people will be there, so it's a much larger event than I expected. No idea what kind of food/drink they will have, but you can't make 300 people starve! All of the artists' submissions are being judged by an artist they have brought over from Greece. No idea if I'll get any prizes, lots of competition so I won't feel bad if I don't. Pretty cool that is being judged, though.

Not being one who partakes, or partook, of the evil weed, the reference never entered my mind. Shame on you for thinking of it! ;)
OK, to satisfy a broader audience, I'll bet you make some , um, um, you know, joint is the right word here, tastings, too! And it has nothing to do with marijuana, either.
I'll bet some of you snicker every time someone mentions the Joint Chiefs of Staff, too.

I got some cool news today about the show. It's a judged event, one judge only as opposed to a juried show with multiple judges. She handed out awards of excellence and honorable mention, and one of the three paintings I put in received an award of excellence. Woohoo. I asked the lady who informed me I had won an award if it was an Italian leg lamp marked "Fragile". I don't think she got it, but my wife overheard me and said if it is, it's not going in the front window.

Is there a link to the art show so we can see the winning piece? :)

A humongously huge shout out THANKS to DukePA's parents and significant other for coming and sharing tonight with me. My jaw dropped when I saw them come in. The show was fun and so was dinner. I'm still stuffed.

Seems to me you don't need any teaching. I love the painting, share more if you have photos.
