Tuna fish from a can or package - I love it on my salad at times with balsamic vinegar.

Do you ever put tuna fish on your salad?

I prefer canned tuna with some sort of mayo (thinking back to the mayo thread last year......), mushed up on bread, preferably wheat toast. Lettuce (iceberg) and tomato slices would be nice on the sandwich as well.

I'm more your style, Ozzie, but I have put tuna on my salad on occasion. However, my tuna of choice is tuna, mayo and some relish mixed together and put on some bread.

I sometimes go to a restaurant where they put sliced seared tuna on a salad. It's sushi grade and wonderful.

Canned tuna I'll use to make a tuna salad sandwich at home.

Tuna fish smells like cat food. I cannot tolerate it.

EJ - In answer to your question from bottom up.... I have put tuna on my salad freshly made with all the fixings and it's not too bad while drowned in ranch dressing (balsamic vinegar is okay), but I much prefer grilled chicken or BBQ chicken the best!

I have to concur with CathyCA, I really got turned off by tuna along time ago when a friend of mine fixed it without any mayo or hard boiled eggs or pickles, just plain - yuck (maybe brand specific - don't know, but still gives me the heebee jeebees when I think about it, like yesterday), but it did taste, smell and remind me of cat food and every time I open a can I think of that unpleasant experience! Hard to get that out of one's taste buds, let alone mind, so don't be too hard on her! There are various ways to fix and prepare tuna and if not done correctly, it will obviously have life long affects!

Now, with respect to canned or packaged, I prefer Fresh Tuna steaks (aka package) about 2 inches thick and about 5-6 inches in circumference, similiar to prime rib, properly marinated with something as simple as lemon and Italian dressing and then grilled properly until most of the pink inside disappears with some side veggies, potatoes and onions, side salad and obviously some wine and walla ... a perfect meal that keeps ya wanting more!!!!!

That's what I'm talking about is healthy!!!!! :D

I admit I like canned tuna.

...and yes I have. On a boat, with a goat. Here and there. Almost anywhere. I'm losing my inhibitions about it. I love it. Please give me more. This time, without so much rat in it.

Seriously, canned tuna for tuna salad with mayo, pickle relish, celery and diced tomato. Toasted wheat bread and an additional swipe of mayo on the toast before the sammich is consumed.

Grilled tuna as a fancy fish entee is delicious. Cooked medium. I am not much of a raw fish fan.

Grilled tuna on a salad is tasty, too. Preferably the weed-type salad (you know, lots of pointy, spiky, dark green and different colored lettuces-no brown lettuce) with pecans or walnuts, bleu/gorgonzola/feta cheese, Kalamata olives and some balsalmic vinegrette dressing.

Gosh, I'm hungry again.

"Tune a fish sandwich? I don't think such a thing is possible."

I like tuna fish on my salad. And my sandwich. And in a macaroni and cheese casserole.

Get some nice, thick, hearty bread. Fresh iceberg lettuce. Fresh tomato slices. Light mayonnaise. Spicy brown mustard. Cheddar cheese. Pickles. Fresh ground pepper.

Dice the pickles.
Mix pickles, mayo, mustard and pepper.
Toast the bread.
Make the sandwich.

Serve with chips on the side. And your choice of beverage. Works equally well with Guinness, Chardonnay, or Cabernet Sauvignon.

If I may present this in a more lyrical way....

Go ahead be fickle;
Dice and mix the pickles;
The girl, I'd never kept her;
If I'd mayod, mustard pepperd!

Hey. Ho Ho, YO!
Let's go!

Don't let being a foodie;
Go straight to yo head!
Don't be full of doodie;
Just go and toast the bread!

Zip, hip, rip;
And Jip, jop, rocks mutha!

Now you got a sandwich;
And it's fly as hell;
But here comes the hitch;
You need some sides as well!

Don't give lip, you wanna be hip;
On the side, let it lie with chips;
And alcohol wit it, fills spirit with glee!
Wine me, dine me, afterall you designed me!

Word up!

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Was the tuna in a healthy state before it was caught?

Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, white pepper, and some dill and and I'm in heaven!

My ship was drydocked downwind of a tuna cannery in Calfornia back in the 50's for several months.It was an experience that caused me to avoid even discussions such as this.Maybe in another 50 years I will be able to say the word out loud.

1. I'm terribly sorry to hear about your experience, and can empathize with you. Though, spending a day of my summer vacation on a hog farm didn't kill my love for bbq. But hey, I'm not even gonna argue the merits of Q over tuna. :p
2. What in the bloody dickens are you doing up at this hour? Are you an insomniac?

Love tuna anything, except sushi. Tuna with mayo and a little caviar (the cheap kind in the grocery store) on lettuce. Tuna salad (mayo, pickle relish, hard boiled egg). Tuna steak. Lately, because of my diet, I have been eating a lot of canned tuna with lemon juice, red pepper, green pepper, chickpeas, and what ever else I feel like throwing in, plain or on wasa bread.

Tuna casserole - haven't had that since I was about 8 years old. Yum!

Well, I was going to point out that while you can tune a piano, and you can tune a guitar, and you can even tune a clarinet, you can't tune a fish, but you beat me to it.
