Maybe it's much too early in the game
Ooh, but I thought I'd ask you just the same
What are you doing New Year's
New Year's eve?
What are your plans for New Year's Eve?
I'm heading over to Durham for the game this afternoon. After the game, I'm driving up to Virginia for a New Year's Eve party with my honey bear.
What about the rest of you? How do you plan to ring in 2009?

Just got back from the Keys so I don't plan much of anything for tonight, except basketball this afternoon.
But tomorrow....our traditional New Years Day roast pork, collards, hoppin johns, cornbread. YUMMY!!!

I'll be watching Duke at 1 pm PST and then ringing in the new year at home. Most likely, I'll cheat by celebrating at midnight EST and then go to bed long before midnight PST.
A few more days and I'll be back in Japan and back to my weird time schedule for sports.

Home with the family, as always. Have never been a "It's New Year's eve, I HAVE to go out" type.
Wife's parents coming over (local), watch the ball drop, play with Kallie (my Airedale), etc.
Although a life-long New Yorker, I've never even been to Times Square for the ball dropping...I leave that to our visitors and guests.
I wish all a wonderful and SAFE holiday and a happy, healthy (and better) 2009.

Still at the inlaws in NJ. We used to always go out with them on New Year's Eve to watch a very very bad movie (I recall seeing Cutthroat Island one year) but with the baby, we're going to rent a movie and see it at home. Hopefully we'll make a good choice. Definitely will watch the game at 4.

I'll be at the game in a few hours and then head home to enjoy the festivities inside where it will be warm and not windy!
New Year's menu is available at a very good local cafeteria, so I'm taking the easy way to have that symbolic meal.

My niece and nephews are on their way to the beach to stay with us for a few days. We'll watch the game at 4, order in pizza from Michaelangelo's, ymmmmmm, then it's off to a party at my boss's house with my nephew as the designated driver.

I'll be at the game and then coming home for the evening. My daughter asked me to BBQ tonight (that's grill out for southerners :)). Just got back from buying some really pretty T-bones at the Town Market in Pine Level. We'll play Texas Hold'em poker after eating. My son-in-law got my daughter hooked on it, and now we play whenever they are here. (We don't play for real money, and neither does he, even on line.) We have a bottle of bubbly to share at midnight.
Happy New Year to all! Go Duke!!

a few couples are getting together for a potluck dinner, and a fun evening of cranium/wii/monopoly.
I also never quite got into the whole spend 100 dollars a person to go to a big party for new years. Much prefer to ring in the new year with friends.
My addition: A sweet potato and chicken chili that earned rave reviews at the firm chili cookoff.

We aren't really into parties either, and my fiance and I both have to work tomorrow morning (I have to be at work by 7am). So we won't be doing anything terribly exciting. We'll probably go see Marley & Me, grab some Cold Stone Ice Cream, watch the ball drop, and call it a night.

Hangin' with a small group of friends; cooking, drinking and of course, watching the annual "dropping of the pants" that seems to happen to someone in the group every year around Midnight.
Maybe even some drunk dialing!

NYE: Work from 10am - 12 noon. Volunteered since it's a 2 hr shift. Go to lunch w/a friend in Huntington Beach. Go home. Figure out what to do/order for dinner (prolly pizza?). Eat dinner in and drink champagne. Go to bed probably before midnight.
NYD: Wake up. Go to Rose Bowl as a fan. :)

Oh heck no. I'm not on crack. I don't get up that early. That's what tv is for.

Work until after 3:00, then home to launder and press a tuxedo shirt and watch the game, then we go to my wife's brother's house for drinks, then (wihthe aid of a designated driver) on to the country club for the New Year's hootenanny and shindig, then with the aid of a taxi, home. Tomorrow I may have a slight headache in the morning (and I'm hoping nothing worse than that).

Just remember, as my wife learned on our wedding night, champagne contains quite a bit more alcohol than beer and wine. :)

The bottle of Martini and Rossi I have in my fridge for tonight says it's only 7.5%. An entire bottle is less than three beers. :(
The entire Blue Ridge Parkway is still open, so I might go up there and stargaze. Clear skies today but real windy, though. I was up hiking at 5300 feet... almost felt like Chicago up there.

Why are you (and the other East coasters that I see online) currently on here instead of partying (or playing poker)?

Well, we just opened our bottle of Champagne and are now sipping it! A magnificent bottle of Andre Brut, even if it does have a screw top . 29 minutes to go!

The way this night is going, I may have to observe the East Coast NYE. West Coast may be a little much for me.
Oops, gotta go put laundry in so I have something to wear tomorrow to the ROSE BOWL!

Happy New Year to you, Sue, and to all the DBR posters.
Sue, hope you see a great game at the Rose Bowl. I'm a big Penn State fan (father, uncle, and brother went to school there) and a Joe Paterno fan. Really hope they win. It's always special to see the Rose Bowl with the beautiful setting and the mountains in the background.

Happy New Year, all.
Went to the Duke game with my husband and another couple that I only know because I "met" the guy here on the DBR. Picked up the teenager and met them for pizza afterwards. Came home and watched a little hoops on TV then watched the movie "Animal House", Then the teen and I went out in the driveway and lit sparklers until we were too chilly to do any more.

Given that I heard that Dick Clark would count down things with Seacrest, I decided to go to sleep early, have a good night's sleep, and wake up fresh.
And it actually worked. Not bad... seven hours of uninterrupted sleep!!
Cheers,

The only bad thing is the thought that if I'd spent just a little less time on the OT board one off season I might never have met him!

Worked until 6 PM, missing the game in its entirety except a few minutes on the radio on the way home:(.
Several other members of the devildeac family were in attendance however;).
Later, a night of inexpensive dancing ($15 PP at a smoke and alcohol free event) with a sparkling cider toast at MN.
PS-Don't worry, I had a Schlafly's Christmas Ale on arrival home and a wonderful seven hour sleep:D.

The game WAS fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the 41 point win. I was a little worried with Nolan's injury in the first half, but when he returned, and after talking to CB&B to find out what had happened (THANKS for the info!), I breathed a little easier. I thought the second half was pure entertainment.
I also had the pleasure of meeting several DBR posters in person at the game. Thanks, Ozzie, for providing the introductions.
On the way out of Durham, I hit redial on my cell phone to call my sweetie to let him know that I was on my way. When he answered, I responded, "Hi, Sweetie, I'm on my way!" The person on the other end of the call asked, "Who is this?" I realized I wasn't talking to my sweetie at all. Actually, I had called CB&B's phone, and I was attempting to make sweet talk with his stepson. My apologies, CB&B! :o
Oh, on the way in to Virginia, I attempted to become an instant millionaire, sort of. Sadly, my ticket didn't win. :(
I made it to my New Year's Eve party in NOVA with three minutes to spare before midnight.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Hit the stores with my sisters and niece during the day searching for a wrap or dress for 13 yr old niece to wear to her first semi-formal dance. The clan went to the bar & grill where another niece works for burger mania. Enjoyed watching 13 yr old card people at the door as a 15 yr old nephew played bouncer beside her. Back home for a movie and champagne at midnight. Actually had a sparkling wine as it was from New Mexico and not France.
New Year's Day included the annual walk in the woods. This year we had 27 show up to walk through the Arboretum at 10am. I think this was year 15 of the tradition. Length of walk is determined by the weather as we go rain or shine or snow. A very good tradition.
