Do any of you make New Year's Resolutions? If so, what are they?
*********************
I resolved to get my personal affairs in order, so today I completed my will, my health care power of attorney, my living will and my general power of attorney.
What about the rest of you? Any goals, resolutions, bucket lists?

I did it so I didn't have to worry about who would be looking out for and taking care of my kids.
It was sort of like putting the last piece of the divorce puzzle into place.

I was going to do it anyway, but it just happened to coincide with New Years. After Christmas I resolved to really lose some weight. So far Day 3 and I've lost 3 pounds.

Since you did this in 2008, does it count?
I resolve to have people over more frequently during the year. It will make me keep my house neater. So, if anyone is passing through Kansas, let me know.

Nothing original here, but I resolve to lose 50 pounds, not to be healthy (although that will be a nice secondary gain) but to look good for my 30th high school reunion!! I cannot attend weighing more than I did when I went into labor with a 9 lb 2 oz baby which is where I'm at now : (

Um, yes, because I resolve to put my marriage and divorce behind me. I prefer to keep it in 2008 and not drag it into 2009.
Edited to add: I'm Jason Williams. I may stop posting for a while and enjoy this status.

In the big scheme of things, its not a big deal, but I'm going to try to quit drinking pop (soda, soft drinks, coke, whatever you prefer to call them). I probably averaged two a day in college and the year and a half of grad school. I"m going for the cold turkey method a la my father (who up and quit one day 15+ years ago and hasn't had one since). Ugh, the first few months of 09 could see a very cranky Cormac. Any suggestions for substitutes from anyone else out there who has stopped? Water and milk can only go so far! :D Everyone pray for me, thanks!

Do your soft drinks contain caffeine? If you're only drinking 2 per day, you should be fine going cold turkey, but if you're drinking a lot more, you may want to try cutting back some each day in order to avoid a caffiene withdrawal headache.

Club Soda with Ruby Red Grapefruit juice mixed in. I know it sounds disgusting, but actually it is pretty good - a nice combination of tart, sweet, and fizz. Then later in the day you can add vodka.

I'll never give up my Diet Coke! So I don't speak from personal experience.
But my 17yo son gave up sodas. He now drinks sweet tea, Vitamin Water, Gatorade, and fruit juices.

Yes they do, and I'm really hoping to avoid the caffeine headache. Hopefully it won't be too brutal. I fear that if I don't go cold turkey, then I'll never make it!

I try to limit my Gatorade intake to only when I lift just because it has so much sugar in it. I've tried G2 and I don't really like it for some reason. I like Vitamin water as well. Is their any truth to the idea that the sugars in fruit juices are better for you than the sugars in soft drinks because they're "natural sugars"? I remember hearing that somewhere, but I can't think of where.
Thanks all!

Depends on how much they have left after investing with Bernie Madoff. They may be there to enjoy a last fling before auctioning off their stuff, house included. Hope not though.

Ahhh, there's another thing I don't miss about the mountains, the Floridiots. (I didn't call them that, just all the locals do!) They did keep me employed in my carpenter career, I built many big houses on the sides of mountains for them. Down here at the beach, I rarely see a Florida plate, but tons of cars from Ohio. I wonder what it is about certain states that cause them to gravitate to other states for their vacation getaways. Lots of beaches closer to Ohio than ours.

CB&B, this is easy. The Florida snow birds go back to the NC mountains in the summer to escape the Florida summer heat (don't ask me why they are there now, other than noted as above). The Ohio "vanists" (a Greg Russell reference if you've ever heard him perform at Sea Pines at Hilton Head - all people from Ohio drive vans, and he started saying this almost 30 years ago) are at the coast to see the sun and warm water.

One of my goals for 2009 (I think of them as goals, not resolutions) is to update my will and related documents. As new family members have come and gone over recent years, my ideas and plans for my estate have changed. (Sounds awfully official, doesn't it?)
One achievement for 2008 was finding a primary care physician here in WS. She's made some changes in medications and the regime I follow, so I look forward to raising some other personal goals and expectations, much like DukePA.
I also enjoyed experiencing something from my "bucket list." In November I had the privilege of accompanying Sam Hammond, university carilloneur, up to the room where the keyboards for the carillon are located. It was a Friday, the day before the anniversary of JFK's assassination, so the selections Sam played commemorated the anniversary. This historical event occurred during my freshman year; I felt a strong connection with the music and the event.
The carillon is played every week day at 5:00P. If you've not been on West Campus to hear the beautiful sounds of those bells, you've missed a real treat. The Alma Mater is usually the final selection thanks to a request from Terry Sanford. The arrangement played on the carillon is quite lovely.
What's on the bucket list for 2009? How about a Bowl Game?
