I know we've discussed how to cook it (temperature, seasoning, methods, etc), but what is your favorite cut of beef? I'm a prime rib girl, but beef is beef- mmm mmmm good. :)

Or we can ignore this and refer to 2535's poll (http://www.dukebasketballreport.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11643&highlight=steak) that I just overlooked.

Any mods care to merge/delete? :D

A lot depends on how the meat is cooked...but I will never turn down beef cooked medium rare.

Let me ask this... I'm watching a special on the Travel Channel right now, and they're highlighting chicken fried steak.

I don't get chicken fried steak. Anyone care to pontificate? I just can't get down with it for some reason.

Chicken fried chicken? I'm there. But beef? Not so much. Convince me.

Edit: Hooooooooooo now they're showing chicken fried bacon. I think my heart just seized up. But dang, I could get down with that I think.

Edit 2: They dip the chicken fried bacon in gravy. I don't eat gravy (2535, don't even start), but that might kill someone after 1 bite.

I love sirloin, medium... if meat's too tender, they call it Spam:D

I voted for Porterhouse, because it combines a NY Strip with a tenderloin, the best of both worlds! Of course, sometimes I'll choose a ribeye over the Porterhouse, depending on my mood, but make them medium rare please! Not rare, not raw, but medium rare with the meat not hot enough to turn pink, but getting close.

As a side dish I'll have some pastrami and corned beef.

Oh where is the option for snapping into a Slim Jim? Not meat you say? Surely you jest...

Yeah, what CathyCA said. :D

A more budget-friendly option is a ribeye cooked on the grill, lightly seasoned with a seasoned salt containing ground oregano, garlic powder, pepper, and a few other herbs from the pantry. Mmmmm.

Prime rib beats that any day, though. Particularly if I don't have to cook it!

With very few exceptions, you can't get good prime rib in north carolina restaurants. The Angus Barn is one of those exceptions as we discussed in the other thread about where to eat in Durham, and I'm sure there are a few others, but I'm very tired of being disappointed in meat that looks great but just doesn't have the desired flavor. I don't know if it's the meat or the seasoning or what. So I order a ribeye and am rarely disappointed.

Best prime rib I've had in the last few years is at Crane's Tavern in Hilton Head. Devildeac can attest.

I LOVE chicken fried steak. Love it love it love it love it. I'm from PA Dutch country where it is nonexistent outside of Bob Evans, but boy do I look forward to visiting my cousins in Texas. Now they down there know how it is done, and it is delicious.

Agreed. I don't eat prime rib much but the flesh served at Crane's is outstanding.
