Well as some of you may have noticed I haven't posted in a while. And most of that was due to the fact I was seeing a chick I actually liked quite a lot until we mutually decided we were too different and broke things off recently. I'm fine with the break up and she and I are still friends, but I have a confession to make and I never thought I would say these words but, "I dated a tarheel".

In my defense this chick was beauty, brains, humor and sexiness all rolled into one. But I have to admit now knowing I have been with a tarheel fan makes me feel all cheap and sleazy....and not in a good way. I want to ask forgiveness, but I want to ask if any of you can admit to straying down the wrong path? And is there some site / place to locate hot female Duke fans, or at the very least fans of any school but UNC? And what exactly is the pentance for dating a tarheel? I'm tired of laying in the shower like a chick in a Lifetime movie trying to pretend it didn't happen.

The shower moment that comes to mind is Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura after he realizes that Lois Einhorn IS Ray Finkle...

I don't have much advice for you on this one. I married a Duke girl, and that turned out to be a train wreck...so I can't really recommend going that route. I finally got happy in life when I dated and then married a State girl. One nice thing about my wife (and, I would guess, most NCSU girls) is that her hatred of all things tarheel exceeds my own. She told me about a date she once went on which was going swimmingly until she found out the guy was a Carolina fan, at which point she ended the date. Right there, done. I find that awesome. So maybe find a nice State girl. You can enjoy her venomous loathing of the Tarheels and come up with some nice bets on the State-Duke games, which you're almost certain to win (at least during basketball season). But don't tell her you dated a Tarheel. That might be a dealbreaker.

Yes you can never tell the next girl you dated a tarheel. Unless it's another unc chick and that might be bad because she will think the ex ditched you. But before going on the next girl, you must ask The Lord for forgiveness because some say you have commited the unpardonable sin. Go Duke!

Dating Tar Heels is a good thing.

Vito Corleone would say, "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

But since Duke is an empire, you may want to heed the advice of King Edward I, the infamous Longshanks, who would advise: "If you can't get them out, breed them out."

Or, to quote Conan the Barbarian: "Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women."

Took the Conan quote before I could use it.......hahaha. I've been with a few hole supporting women; found out while seeing them and not before. Note this is in the past tense--for a variety of reasons things never worked fully with them. I always said with them that they had a few screws loose and that seems to be a direct correlation in my eyes. :p Given that I'm sure there's a few of us who've sinned in the same way I think we have to pass on the forgiveness. Besides, we can only convert so many to the darker blue light

I've heard when we read our minds don't actually focus on every word, but more every few words. So when I read that quote I read the word Conan and I guess my mind saw the B. When I got done reading the quote I was sitting here thinking, why would Conan O'Brian say that, and that's pretty big talk for one of us Irish guys!

Eh. I graduated from Duke, went to UNC law and married a Tarheel. Some people can handle a mixed marriage. Our house divided has stood for 17 years so far.

Latta, I share your pain, brother. You may know, I am a Kentucky fan, born and raised. I fell in love with a Duke girl, took her to the promised land for a game at Cameron and suddenly, all the hate tsunami drained from my now twisted and divided soul. I have struck a balance in that UK sucks and will not meet Duke anywhere but in the tournament and that would probably be a 1-16 or 2-15 matchup. I'd be rooting for my Wildcats but wouldn't be devistated by a lose. The upside is that we hate Carolina almost as much as you Dukies and I have learned of some wonderful defeats and humiliations of the holes visiting this site.

Only you can find reconciliation between your basketball heart and your romantic heart. But have faith, it is possible.

Ken I've dated two Kentucky chicks, one from Lexington and one from Loiusville, both were absolutely stunning from head to toe but a couple of bulbs short of a string of Christmas lights. Even though one was a Louisville fan and the other pulled for UK I wasn't vexed at all. And this is after witnessing Final Four losses to both schools. Miss Ashley Judd can have the seven digits any time she wants them. But in my entire life whenever I found a chick was a tarheel fan I pursued it no further.

I met this last girl at my 20th high school reunion. We didn't know one another in high school and had both "blossomed" over the years. Honestly the different views on religion, politics etc. didn't bother me. But the whole time I realized that come February 11th it was going to be like putting an Israeli and a Palestinian in the same room. I kept telling myself, she went to East Carolina, it's not like she actually WENT to UNC. But when she bad mouthed Laettner it was like she was saying something about my family. I told her she can talk about me, even talk about my momma, but not to say anything bad about Duke.

Oh well, live and learn there are plenty more fish in the sea and as stated she and I are still close friends. But Duke has been there for me since 78, and part of me feels like I lowered my ethics for some hottie come lately. :D

Can you get infraction points for dating a tarheel?:o

Did your posting on the DBR hasten the breakup?;)

Cheers (and welcome back to the right side),

Isn't JP Loonies the place owned and/or managed by the Puma, Marty Nessley?

I don't know about JP Loonies, but Marty Nessley owns and manages Sunset Grille in Durham and Cary (www.sunsetgrilledurham.com and www.sunsetgrillecary.com). He used to have some cool pictures on his site, but I just checked, and they're gone.

I love the ribs and the Sunset chips. Mmmm. Now I'm hungry....

Ahhh Loonies... home of the Looney chip. Good stuff. When I worked down at the Coliseum, I used to eat there often:D

Your penance, since you reside in Bigger, Better, Burlington, is to see what can be done to rid the public of the eyesore in Graham, alongside I-85/40 North/East bound's shoulder, that is a billboard that appears to be owned by the unc athletic dept. (fire works well, as does dark blue paint)

No. Don't do anything illegal.

Go forth, and sin no more.

Of course I have to weigh in on this thread. As many of you know, I live with a tarhole. I love him, but I still call him a hole. I'm so mean :D It can be really, really difficult because I despise carolina. It takes herculean effort to keep my mouth shut when they are on TV. Just the other night, there was a tarhole alum on the Wheel of Fortune. When she proudly announced that she graduated from unc-chapel hole, I just couldn't help myself: I made obnoxious vomitting sounds. Stevo was not happy with me, but damn, when you are reared by the most rabid Duke fans on the face of the earth, hating the holes is as natural as breathing.

We actually get along rather nicely though, so I do have hope for the Middle East.

GO DUKE!!! GTHC, GTH!!
