Feel free to move this to the PPB, I'm just sending my thoughts to those in Mumbai who are going through a horrible day. My Thanksgiving will have a little more meaning tomorrow as I think about what I have to be thankful for. Tops on my list is I live in a quiet part of the world that does not garner outside attention. Best wishes to those in India for a healthy recovery in the stand against those don't wish for a peaceful world.

Oy, and yesterday afternoon I was thinking I was thankful I hadn't opted to head for Bangkok for the Thanksgiving break. Its ugly and not over yet for many people there.

I usually go to Thailand over U.S. Thanksgiving myself, and in 2006 and 2007 my flight out of the U.S. was on this very date (the Wednesday before Thanksgiving). I'm not going this year because I flew enough miles to keep my status early. My life wouldn't have been in danger or anything, only my status, which is almost as bad to lose anyway. I really dodged a bullet.

I don't even know what to say about this tragedy. All I can think of is that, only a couple of years ago, my younger brother was working there for a few months. Heck, he probably ate in the restaurants and drank in the bars that were attacked. And these arseholes were targeting westerners (from what I've read Brits, Americans, and Canadians). And I've got Indian friends whose families come from Mumbai. I haven't talked to any of them in the last couple of days but hope to hell their families and friends are safe.

It seems that some in the Muslim world have declared war on us. I wonder how we'll deal with that? I've got some thoughts but am not sure I should post them.

ETA: I just checked some emails and found out that a friend from high school was in Mumbai that morning. She had dinner at Leopold's the night before and stayed at the Taj. She flew back to Montreal a couple of hours before the attacks took place. Scary. Truly scary.
