View Full Version : Old Brands Still Around...name some.

What brands do you associate as being “old?” Old in the sense of “my parents or grandparents used it but, though it’s still around, it seems to have fallen completely off the consumer radar.”
Key to the question is that the product must still be around. A few years ago I’d have said “Old Spice” but they’ve spent some bucks re-energizing the brand.
Others:
-British Sterling
-Geritol
-Lava soap
-Lectric Shave

I ocassionally use Brut aftershave balm and deodorant. Brut was really popular in the 70's and sorta fell out of favor like British Sterling.

My parents had a Zenith TV.
Ha, I just looked it up and now Zenith is part of LG Group.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenith_Electronics_Corporation
The company began in Chicago, Illinois, in 1918 as a small producer of amateur radio equipment. The name "Zenith" came from its founders' call sign, 9ZN, and Zenith Radio Company was formally incorporated in 1923.
Zenith was the first company to experiment with subscription TV and made the first practical wireless TV remote control, the Space Command, developed in 1956. In the 1980s, Zenith fell on hard times as more and more of their market share went to Japanese sets with lower prices.

I went back to Old Spice a few years ago - got tired of Polo. Back to basics (and to what my Dad wore).
As for Brut...I believe the big endorser in the late 60's was Joe Namath.

But, he also has a MUCH better memory and data bank for Duke sports!

I love Spanish Bar cakes but I always picked out the raisins.
My first job, at the tender age of 16, was that of a stocker/bagboy at the local A&P. On Saturday mornings, the company bakery truck would arrive before the store opened and leave goods on the walk next to the door. My first duty was to load Jane Parker bread on the shelf. One particular morning, when I opened the first box of white loaf bread, I jumped back because all the loafs were twisted and looked mangled. I told the store manager and his judgment was to go ahead and put them on the shelf because "they were made out of rubber and would bounce back anyway". This was about 6am. We opened the doors at 7am. Sure enough, he was right! Those loafs looked like all the others in that one hour's time of freedom on the shelf, straight and neat. :D

LOL!
Most of the brand names being mentioned have been around a long time but are still very current in the market place, so I don't understand why they are being listed. Bayer Aspirin? Chlorox? Tide? 3 Muskateers? Jeez.
I think products like Brylcreem and Vitalis with V-7 are better choices - stuff that is still on the shelves but very few people use anymore (which begs the question "why are they still on the shelves"?) How many of you young whipper-snappers even know what Brylcreem is?
