Is it possible to live through an NFL season without Tom Brady?

Guys stop reading.

Ok, girls, I mean really. I do like football and I'd watch it anyway, but doesn't looking at Tom kind of make it all even more worthwhile?

I don't care for Tom Brady. Never did. I'll survive the NFL season without him (IF that's what it comes to) quite easily.

That's OK Sue, but, c'mon, don't you find him awfully pretty to look at?

Honestly, no. Just eh to me.

Is he an attractive man? In terms of what is considered attractive today, yes. But I've never been in line with public perception, really.

Do I find him pretty? Nope.

What is the latest word on his knee? If he doesn't play, he'll probably be on the sidelines helping send in plays, so you should still get some viewing opportunities.

Bostondevil

Ah yes, that should do it.

I understand Sue, I feel the same way about Brad Pitt. I get it that he's attractive but he doesn't do it for me.

George on the other hand, can have me whenever he wants me.

The other answer would be, there is still Red Sox baseball, Revs(and Jay Heaps) soccer, the Celtics and of course Duke baseketball and football.

Wait, that is the guys answer, isn't it?

Oh yes, George > Brad. :D

However, there are some movies where Brad... mmmmmm. :) I think in general Brad is TOO pretty, whereas I don't find Tom pretty.

After Tom left Bridget while she was pregnant, that did it for me. He is no longer hot.

I thinnk you can get through an NFL season sans TB.

Not me, the story here in New England is that she wanted to get married and have kids, he didn't, so she just got pregnant anyway. Not cool.

That's what I'd heard.

BD, I know you can live without TB, not sure the Pats can though. I just don't find TB all that attractive. Course who am I to talk, I have a huge crush on the Blue Devil.

So, if I'm hearing things right, I can have Tom Brady all to myself but I'd have to share George?

I don't really want Tom Brady though. I just like looking at him. In uniform.
With black under his eyes. Playing footsie with Randy Moss on the bench. Romo and Owens have started playing footsie too, has anyone else noticed? Besides NBC, I mean.

Not cool for either one of them, then. It takes two to. . . whatever.

You can live without Tom Brady.

Ever see a cat with three legs? To themselves, they are perfectly okay.

People are different. Tom will be different. Not so pretty, not so self-assured, never again! Tom received an injury that in another era it would be over. Now it just looks like it's not over. The old Tom, say bye-bye. Who the new Tom will be, will he move with the same elan, will he play with the same cleverness; how could he?

And, what does it say that everyone but you all are just talking about when he'll be back? The mechanism upon which this guy strode through the world with such mastery just got broke, and no one takes a moment, pauses a moment, to extend condolences for Tom's loss, or perhaps to ask, "Man, I wonder if he makes that same play if he wasn't already playing injured, if he had taken the time to really get his injured ankle right?"

He will still be pretty but will he carry himself in the same distinctive, elegant style? Some things are lost. I suspect that we shall not see the like of the old Tom Brady again, and I suspect that Tom himself knows that.

This is not the end of the football world, and the sky is not falling. Brady had a nice run of uninterrupted success, but injuries happen. He'll get the surgery or whatever treatment is needed, do the rehab, and come back to run the Pats. I can think of Carson Palmer, McNabb, and Delhomme off the top of my head of QBs coming back from season-ending injuries. Brady's success comes from his head, his arm, and the rest of their offense.

Meanwhile, the Pats still have a strong team on offense and defense, and Bellechick, of all coaches in the league, may be the best at using Brady's absence to give the rest of the team a big chip on its collective shoulder.

Everyone else in the AFC East will finish .500 or below, so they'll win it in a walk. They'll pass less, run more, be 11-5 or so, and we'll leave this alone until December when we can start talking about playoff seedings. They were bound to come down from the stats they rolled up last season anyway.

McNair has not been healthy in eons. Has not had a strong, complete season in eons. This is your example?

The two games game Brady played with a hitch in his giddy-up, a significant one, are the last two. They didn't turn out too good. He is long and lanky. Throws like a pitcher putting amazing pressure on his front leg. That is over for him, done. He might come back, but he will not be the Tom Brady we knew. He might even be effective, but he will not be the Tom Brady we knew. The old Tom Brady is gone. We'll see if the new one is as impressive. I doubt it.

I'm not as sad as the NE faithful, but I did miss the first 10 minutes of one of my FFL drafts last week and ended up autopicking Brady in the first round. My team was bad with Brady but a disaster now.

So here's a question - won't Jessica Simpson do to Tony Romo what Kim Basinger did to Robert Redford in The Natural?

My question is...

what are the chances that jack cassell would be brought in to pitch for an injured player on the padres the same day that his little brother replaced tom brady? How crazy is that? ;) At least, that's what ESPN said today.

Bostondevil, Tom's a little too pretty for me. We're a Jets household here in CT but I've always liked Brett Favre (I grew up loving Green Bay in the Bart Starr days) so this season is working out just fine for me. Brett is a little grungy and a little older, but I'll check out his Wranglers anytime!
I'm sorry for your loss, though. Hope Tom works through it.
His injury messed up quite a few fantasy football teams. Fortunately I got Drew Brees, so I'm sitting pretty today.
And guys, don't you be hijackin' this thread anymore! It's one of the few times I can remember having girl talk here.

The Tom Brady I know was successful by controlling the clock, managing the game, and making smart decisions..He may not come back in his 07 form, but I see no reason why he can't return to the form that won 3 super bowls..

Three guys walk down the street, all equally good looking, same body types and everything, your eye is drawn to one. The other two do nothing for you. How come? Sorry, ladies, the Tom you knew is bye bye. No thread hi jack, just reporting the news. ;)

Yes, but we all have our Stetson ads to console us, those of us that like the Stetson ads anyway.

Hey, who does do it for you Sue, just George? You know, I don't really find Tom 'pretty' but I do find him pretty to look at, if that makes any sense. Brad can be pretty.

There aren't that many pretty athletes though. I'm trying to think of one.

Maybe we should change the topic to Olympic swimmers, that might chase the boys away. Me? I'll take Aaron Piersol, thank you very much. But he's not pretty, well, it's not a pretty face, the rest of him . . .

If you're looking for "pretty" male athletes, I've always been told that Rafael Nadal is very cute, and Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. How 'bout Mark Philippoussis? Or there's always Tiger Woods. Everybody I talk to think he's cute. Maybe not "pretty" though. I guess Nadal is probably the "prettiest" I can think of for athletes.

I feel so unclean. I need a bath now. :o

The Tom Brady I know was successful by controlling the clock, managing the game, and making smart decisions..He may not come back in his 07 form, but I see no reason why he can't return to the form that won 3 super bowls..

Throwing, being able to trust your delivery in the myriad circumstances the rush presents, is a whole body deal that starts from the ground up. Being able to do the things you mentioned depends on Tom's ability to deliver the ball reliably the way he has for years. All that changes with the knee. They can rehab the knee, but it will not work the same way.

The delivery will be altered, things like ribs and shoulder blades and collar bones will be affected; sore shoulders, collar bones, necks, elbows will ensue in all likelihood, hips and backs too. This will not be the same lithe athlete, genuis in his body that we knew. This will be damaged goods--much more susceptible to the nagging injuries that impair peak, hairline performance that distinguished Tom in the past.

Will he like the three-legged cat learn to adapt perfectly to his new circumstance, we'll see. At any rate, I like the four-legged cat's chances better.

The real issue for me, one we will never know the answer to, is whether Tom would have been Tom with that ankle that was troubling him. I seriously doubt it. What was he doing on the field if he couldn't even get ready for the season? (BTW, just speculation, but do you think that the other team's players were extra amped up, were under orders to make every effort, extra efforts, crawl if you have to, to get to Tom on that ankle, and if so, was Moss in effect right when he said it was a "dirty play"?) We take the nonsense that the teams put out that he's okay, Manning's okay, even while they are not acting "okay," and then, in the case of the Bears, make a big deal when a Manning-lead team goes down.

When these guys can't practice, they shouldn't be playing. If they are, they are not the same guy who can do both. Bet on it.

Instead of starting a new thread for the New England Patriots 2008, I thought I'd just bump this one.

Anybody think someone besides the Patriots will win the AFC East?

Really?

I love Matt 'Avoid Big Mistakes' Cassel. And Randy Moss. And Wes Welker. And Adalius 'I'll Sack You and Your Lineman' Thomas. And Mike 'I Wanna Be Like You' Vrabel.

Pats Rule! (OK, they're probably going 11-5, but the still rule!)

I have a lot more confidence after yesterday. They look a lot like that 2001 or even 2003 Patriots (not that I'm predicting a SB)..Strong running, short passes, and solid defense should produce 11 wins and the AFC East.. They'll run into trouble with some high power offense teams like Indy and SD but there is still a lot of talent on that team..
