This includes all kinds of shoes (sneakers, dress shoes, loafers, but not flip-flops).

My running shoes, kayak shoes, work boots, and boat shoes put me over the top. I have about 6 pair of work shoes, but generally alternate between two pair.

When my wife bought me kayak shoes I thought she was smoking crack. After using them a few times I humbly admit they are very nice to have getting in and out of the kayak in the rocks and mud. And I use them for other wet activities.

I have 8 pairs of shoes for work, 3 for running, and with other miscellaneous shoes I am easily over 12.

99% of the time, I'm wearing these 2:

sandals (SAS (http://www.sasshoes.com/)) @work
tennis shoes (NewBalance) for the gym.

The other 1%, I have 2 casual (Sketchers) and 1 pair of formal leather shoes, but I only wear those to interviews and company events.

I do have a pair of basketball shoes but they no longer fit, so I'm not counting that one... which puts me in the lowest bracket so far (woo hoo!)

seriously? more than 12?

For some reason I still have three of four pairs of retired Chuck Taylors. They aren't included in my tally though.

I have several pairs of shoes for kayaking depending on the season and conditions..I wouldn't mind going barefoot in the summer but in the winter they are essential..

Some people just refuse to grow up:

1 pair black dress shoes
1 pair black loafers
1 pair brown mocs
1 pair brown casual oxfords

that's it for office shoes.

4 pair hoop sneaks
2 pair golf spikes
1 pair turf cleats
1 pair running shoes
1 pair cross trainers
3 pair sandals (2 flipflops, 1 Teva)
1 pair winter / outdoors boots
7 pair high top Chucks (black, white, khaki, maroon, olive green, red, dark blue)

Dang that's a lot of shoes. Do I still get to keep my man card?

Vocabulary sidebar: In Pennsylvania, we seem to use "tennis shoes" and "sneakers" pretty much interchangeably to refer to all non-dress rubber-soled athletic footwear. Of course neither term makes any sense. Is that a geographical thing?

3...One pair dress shoes, one pair sports shoes, one pair sandals (which I wear more than the others...I wear sandals if it's 30 degrees.) Hippie toes.

One pair of dress shoes (though, admittedly, now that I'm a professional I really ought to own two:D), one pair of sneakers, one pair of basketball shoes which haven't been worn recently.

19, including 1 pair of sandals. I'm too tired to categorize them:o. And I wear most of them regularly.

I have lots, all of which I wear regularly:

2 pairs dress shoes (1 black, 1 brown)
3 pairs Topsiders
1 pair "good" athletic shoes (the ones I only work out in)
3 pair casual athletic shoes: 1 pair Saucony, 1 pair Nike, 1 pair Adidas
1 pair Converse Jack Purcells
1 pair heavy Timberland boots
3 pairs cowboy boots (brown, black, tan)
1 pair late '80s style Reebok high-top basketball shoes (1 of the 2 greatest thrift store finds of my life)

I also own about half a dozen pairs of flip-flops. I wear all of those, too.

I have well over 12 pair of shoes. Off of the top of my head:

2 - Basketball
2 - Running
3 - Dress
5 - Casual
5 - sandals, flip-flops, crocks.

I need to change my answer because I forgot about shoes I have purchased "for future use" when my present 3 pair wear out.

1 pair of black leather Hush Puppies for work or casual wear
1 pair of sneakers (currently Reeboks, because that's what fit right and was on sale cheap at Sam's Club, or was it BJ's?)
1 pair of golf shoes (Nike's, they look like sneakers are are very comfortable)

My Hush Puppies model, that I've had many pairs of over the last 15 years or so, has been "retired" by Wolverine, so when I found 2 pair available on closeout last spring in Myrtle Beach, I bought them. They sit unworn in my closet until they are needed, and should last me for the next 4 to 5 years or so. And I bought another pair of golf shoes last December with credits I had in the pro shop that had to be spent or forfeited.

And I have a pair of bedroom slippers too that I didn't count but should have.

I'm not counting old shoes and sneakers that don't get worn anymore because they are worn out but haven't been thrown out yet. Yeah, some of them are several years old and need to go.

I have to change my vote to the over 12 category. I forgot my basketball shoes and my winter boots. Plus I'd like to get a pair of those LL Bean (or is it Lands End?) boots that are rubber in the foot area and leather up the ankle.

Do yak trax count?

I'm over 12.

1 pair - Topsiders
1 pair - Golf Shoes
1 pair - Tennis Shoes (for actually playing tennis)
1 pair - Wallabee's
1 pair - The classic black basketball referee shoes! (I'm a ref)
2 pair - Hiking shoes
2 pair - Basketball Shoes
3 pair - Running Shoes
3 pair - Casual Brown shoes
4 pair - Dress Shoes

4 pair - Sandals (those don't even get included)

I think there are more but I'm not in front of my closet to check.

Two pairs of dress shoes (one stays in the office, the other stays at home for business trips)
One pair of sorta-dressy shoes (think Doc Martens or Rockports)
One pair sneakers/workout shoes
Two pairs of hiking boots, one lightweight, one heavyweight. They double as outside boots during Chicago winters.
One pair of sandals

That's seven. I have a few other pairs in my closet I won't count because I haven't worn them in a couple years.

I topped 12. I have running shoes, sketchers and rainbow flops I wear a lot but I also have and actively wear football cleats (and a backup pair), softball cleats (2 backup pairs, one with metal spikes one with plastic), golf shoes, running shoes for indoor and grass court volleyball. Then there's lots of pairs that I own that are either random or old or specialized (winter hiking boots for cold wet weather, for example). The oldest pair I have is probably my wrestling shoes from high school!

3 pair dress shoes, in the rotation,
1 pair Saucony running shoes
1 pair Merrell chameleons, casual, non-specific
1 pair Merrell hiking boots for grass mowing, yard work, etc.
1 pair Gronell hiking boots (fabulous!)
1 pair crocs (lightweight camp shoes; especially good for 3am forays to see a man about a dog), also good for the beach
1 pair sandals, only used at the beach.
9 total.
That's it for me.

Leaving out sandals is kind of silly, since they get much more use (every weekend, many weeknights) than my hiking boots (only when hiking) or winter/snow boots (only when in the mountains in winter).

or maybe it's because the last category is "X and above"? I didn't check if people actually all had 12ish shoes, but that could explain the spike at the end.

But a two hump wump is so much more exciting! :D

Yes, I agree, it could be due to the open nature of the last category. However, IIRC, reading through the responses indicates there is indeed a second hump in the vicinity of 12 shoes. The second hump might not be as pronounced as the first hump.

JFrosh, let's see if I can talk my way out of this one.... Basketball shoes have a hierarchy - the newest pair gets worn only indoors on the hardwood. Then they get demoted to outdoor-only use. Then they get demoted to cut-the-grass / change-the-oil / paint-the-house duty. So that's 3, although any sneaks at the end of their lifespan can fill that scutwork role... I don't play as much anymore, so I've been getting a new pair every 2 or 3 years... (have been pleased with And1's...)

As for the Chucks, I tripped over a pretty good online deal a couple years ago and loaded up... I was proud of myself for sticking to solid colors and resisting the temptation to get the American flag pattern and / or the leopard print pattern.... I did talk Mrs Turk into getting a pair of pink high tops. She wore them twice, pronounced them the ugliest shoes she ever put on her feet, and banished them to the back of the closet never again to see the light of day...

And I counted all shoes in the inventory, regardless of how often I wear them...

Howzat?

I'm entirely unashamed of my shoe collection. I even forgot my Clarks Wallabees on my previous list. They bring me to 16. I don't buy shoes and summarily toss them in the closet; I wear all of them according to the weather, my clothes, and my mood. I also regularly get compliments on my shoes (seriously). I really can't help it if I look good.

That I am, my friend. Thank you for acknowledging. Even in grad school, I am the resident frat boy. But I must say, I was born fratty...my mother has pictures of me with my little bowties poking out of my shepherd's costume in the children's Christmas pageant at age 3 or so.:rolleyes:

This I will never get. What's with people wanting so many dang pillows on the bed? You either have to put them on and pull them off each day.... or else they just lie around on the floor in a heap. They never even get used!

It's related to those towels in the bathroom that you can't use. They're the "lookin' at" towels.

Watch out. I'll put water on that soap too.

It's a trick question. I over a dozen pairs of shoes, but most of them are too old and worn to be seen in public.

My going out in public shoes are:
1 pair running shoes for working walking, working out, relaxing, etc.
1 pair dress shoes to use when I wear my tie.
1 pair old running shows for mowing.
1 pair sandals for whenever real shoes are just too much trouble.
1 pair sandals in my workout bag for wearing home from the gym.

My other shoes are generally:
8 to 10 pairs of worn out sneakers and dress shoes I haven't gotten around to throwing away.
