I think they may be trying to abbreviate it with P for Pratt but then of course that creates the confusion with Parents.

It was all women when I was there too. Of course, so was House H. Yeah, definitely smart to give those archway rooms to young women. I once had a full and opened can of beer thrown through my window from the ground. Thanks guys. I blame the Theta Chis, I hated those guys and the feeling was mutual as they hated me. A lot of the selective groups have moved umpteen times since 19-whatever. In summer 1995, and then again in the early 2000s. Diachronically, it's easier to tell where someone lived on West with the letter designations. "I lived in Mirecourt." Great--Mirecourt has been in at least three different places since I hit town, and I'm only 31.

I lived in Hanes the last year it was open. Then in FF for three years. That's the one directly across the WCBS from the Allen building.

Stonhenge was 1/2 of Kilgo quad with Broughton, part of house P and the Phi Kaps in'73. We kicked the ATO'S and Phi Delts to win flag football my freshman year. Intercepted 3 passes in those two games-back in the day.

Burton, Taylor, Abele?
The official designation for Abele (http://library.duke.edu/uarchives/history/histnotes/julian_abele.html) (I've been told it's pronounced "able" not "uh-beel") was "House DD" and most people did call it DD. It's the left side of the arch in this google map street view (http://tinyurl.com/6eushv) (right side = Brownstone, which occupies the space designated "House CC").

Question: When exactly did Kilgo quad lose Broughton and Stonehenge?

IIRC, Stonehenge was still there up through 2001-02 school year. The next year was when they instituted the Independent Corridor, moved around all the selective houses and frats, and for some reason decided to call all the buildings by their letters instead of actual names.

T'84, 2 yrs Pegram, 2 yrs Maxwell, with a summer off-campus within walking distance of the old DAP (Bulls Hit!! plus "The Bull" on tap... those were good days...)

Good grief, all the shuffling and renaming and unfamiliar names has me worried about having "senior moments", and I have to admit I felt like a dinosaur when I had to ask the googler to show me the quad names...

Not sure if Maxwell still exists as an entity, but it used to be in the corner of Craven between Delta Sig and Phi Kap. I liked the arrangement - I managed to stay on good terms with the neighbors and have a friend or two in most of the social groups, so there were plenty of opportunities to enjoy a cold beverage or several.

As for the hoops, I always felt like Moses - I knew Coach K had them going to the promised land someday, but I also knew it was not meant for me to be at Duke when it happened.... (apologies in advance to the theologians for such an overblown analogy, especially since I've managed to see my share of NCAA in person over the years....)

Biggest? Have you been in Southgate???

The official designation for Abele (http://library.duke.edu/uarchives/history/histnotes/julian_abele.html) (I've been told it's pronounced "able" not "uh-beel") was "House DD" and most people did call it DD. It's the left side of the arch in this google map street view (http://tinyurl.com/6eushv) (right side = Brownstone, which occupies the space designated "House CC").

Corrected: Not oldest undergrad, but came close.

Class of '68

Started in E but ended up as a Trinity grad

Mirecourt in old quad nearest to the main entrance road for two years

Moved down to new Mirecourt built in the old "swamp" junior year

Went off campus for last two years (stayed an extra year to actually graduate in '69), but remained affiliated with Mirecourt.

House CC
House CC / Phi Kappa Psi (near Stonehenge and Broughton - we were not Phi Kaps, BTW, we were Phi Psis)

The funny thing is that both of my houses no longer exist - House CC was selective, though I got in my freshman year (last year of freshmen in selective housing) and abolished much later (after my brother was also a House CC man).

Phi Psis were a great group when I was there and apparently went downhill until they got their charter revoked, long after I graduated.

From a hoops perspective, possibly the best (and luckiest) four years to ever be there as a student. I remember that strange feeling I had when Jason Kidd beat us in the tourney in '93. Of course when Scottie Thurman made that ridiculous shot in '94, I got sick... and it wasn't from the Boone's Farm!

I think that was 2001. The only details I remember are that they were lighting small fireworks and throwing at people after we won the championship, and IIRC a poster here was called a "sand n*****" (he's middle eastern) when he accosted them about this. I'm sure there were more egregious violations, but that's all I can think of. Good times.

Maxwell men...good 'til they drop!

Maxwell House is still around though it has been moved to Kohane 4B (nice digs by the way).

I posted earlier saying that I was a senior this year, but I thought that i would update it with my dorms...Pegram, Edens 1B x2 (Sigma Phi Epsilon section), Off Campus at the West Village Apartments.

The Phi Kaps preceded Phi Psis in the space near Broughton until they moved across the main quad circa '75-'76.

I lived in House CC all four years. Before we were moved. Before we were renamed to "Old House CC" (or was it "Ye Olde House CC"). And certainly before we were disbanded for partying too much.

Vive le Umteenth Ninth Annual Purple Passion Party!

I do hope someone still has the recipe for the Purple Passion Punch. I have a fuzzy recollection that we used a case of grain alcohol.

I have a fuzzy recollection that all they used with that case of grain was a big canister of grape kool-aid, a 5-lb bag of sugar, and a gallon of water. (Repeat as necessary until trash can is full.)

Tulane very tentatively proposes to start classes again Monday. Little damage to the city, but no power is a huge problem all over the area, and in particular around the university area. I guess we didn't have AC at Duke in Sept. back in the day, but I'm so spoiled now I ain't going anywhere near NOLA this time of year until electricity is restored. The governor is jumping ugly with the utility company about this.
