Pretty ridiculous.

I don't know ... a good way to blow off steam.

I agree that there's little chance for success. I can see the argument that the newspaper sold me a subscription to one product, then downgraded that product ... but the fact that I am allowed to cancel my subscription at any time without penalty would seem to my non-legally educated mind to negate the lawsuit. Now if I was sold a one-year subscription and was not allowed to cancel the subscription (kind of like the deal on most cell phones) after they downgraded the product, then I could see a valid lawsuit -- even a class action lawsuit.

As it is, the guy should face up to the fact that newspapers are dying. They are the horse and buggy of the information age. He might regret it -- I do -- but that can't change the march of time.

If he thinks the quality of the N and O has gone down, he should live in Charlotte. I skim the headlines (online) but go to the N and O for news.

his comments about buying an airline ticket to LA and ending up in Denver reminds me of something my wife went through.

I was in Guernsey for an extended business trip, and my wife came to visit me from Luxembourg. There are no direct flights between the two- one typically connects in London. No airline services both legs (ok, there is one intinerary where you can use BA the whole way)

For her, we found a much cheaper flight flying from Lux -> Manchester -> Guernsey. Lux -> Man was with VLM, and Man -> Gsy was with a CI airline company, Aurigny (think Wings, but with slightly bigger planes).

Now, the VLM ticket she bought was Lux -> Man. But it turns out that it stops at London City airport, picks up more passengers (and drops off those who are going to London) and then continues on. However, VLM decided to cancel the LCY -> MAN leg, because they didn't sell enough tickets. My wife was stuck in London, and her next flight (the last one to the CIs that day) was out of a city hours away.

VLM would only refund her the price of the LCY -> Man leg.

That's the last time we flew VLM.

Aurigny was nice about it- they let us switch her ticket to a flight out of London Gatwick and waived the fee when I explained the situation. We still had to pay for her to get from London City to Gatwick. What really angered me was that we didn't even know the VLM flight wasn't direct... it was bought and booked as a direct flight.

That really sucks! I was pissed enough the other day when I got to the airport at 6 AM for a direct 2.5 hour flight to LA, only to learn that they'd canceled it due to not selling enough tickets and I was taking a 3 hour flight to Denver, then another flight to LA and was missing the stuff I'd set up for the day because I was getting to LA 6 hours late. At least they got me to LA.

to continue the thread hijack (ugh - bad choice of words when the thread has turned to airlines!):

Going from BNA to ORD nonstop. Just before leaving for BNA, told to get there 40 min earlier than planned b/c flight canceled, and instead they're going to send us from BNA to DFW, then, after a 2 hr layover, to ORD.

This cost us the first afternoon of our vacation. They blamed the weather, but I've flown in a lot worse than that.
