Georgia Tech’s stay in the Top 25 will be brief this time: the Jackets lost to Dayton, a dangerous team as we mentioned this morning, 63-59. Rookie star Derrick Favors had 10 points and six boards; Gani Lawal had eight boards and nine points.

For various reasons, Stanford has a weakened roster and faces a possibly tough year. Talent is on the way, though, as Johnny Dawkins has put together a very nice recruiting class.

One of the perks of being a Duke fan is, well, academic: every time the NCAA releases the Graduation Success Rate, Duke is near the top of the list. This year? 97% overall graduation, 15 teams with 100% graduation, and none under 92%.
Basketball clocked in at 95% and football at 96%.

This is pretty cool – Thad Lewis is in the running for the Unitas Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top quarterback. Pretty impressive! Also impressive: Duke defensive coordinator Mike McIntyre has been named the national assistant of the year.

In Wednesday night ACC action, Wake Forest beat Scott Cherry’s High Point team, 83-60, and FSU clobbered Stetson, 80-38.

Well this is an interesting case with some ACC ties: remember when Gus Gilchrist left Maryland for USF where a guy who had been called his personal trainer was hired as part of a package deal? A former USF beat writer who used to toil for the Tampa Tribune wrote this story about the situation.
