Duke and UNC meet on the football field Saturday with bowl implications for both teams.  Been a long time since anyone could say that.   The shorthand is likely to be Duke’s offense vs. UNC’s defense, and there’s some truth to that.  However, UNC scored 27 on Florida State and 20 on Virginia Tech, and Duke’s defense has been pretty stout, especially late in games.  In fact, one thing which has escaped a lot of people’s attention is that Duke has become a second half team and a pretty good team in the clutch.  This is because of good coaching and superb conditioning, and not least of all special teams.

Still, the biggest thing in this game has always been emotion. There will be more than usual this time with both teams having more ambition than they have lately.  So all in all, expect a passionate, intense contest.  And let’s hope Duke comes out on top.
