Duke Ranked No. 1 in 2007 NCSA Power Rankings

CHICAGO For the third straight year, Duke University was the top-ranked Division I school in the 2007 National Collegiate Scouting Association Power Rankings.  The power rankings take a school’s Directors’ Cup , U.S. News & World Report and NCAA graduation rate rankings into account.  Duke also claimed the top Division I spot in 2005 and 2006.

Duke marks included No. 8 on the U.S. News & World Report, No. 11 in the Directors’ Cup and No. 16 for NCAA Graduation Rate for a power ranking of 11.66.  Notre Dame was second with a power ranking of 18.33 and Stanford third with 20.66.  Northwestern (fourth – 21.66), Harvard (fifth – 26.33), Princeton (26.66), Vanderbilt (36.0), Wake Forest (36.66), Boston College (37.66) and Yale (39.66) round out the top 10.

“With so many great colleges/universities to choose from, NCSA’s power rankings objectively help student-athletes compare collegiate opportunities so they know how institutions stack up pound for pound,” said NCSA CEO and Founder Chris Krause. “With this ranking, it shows us that Duke University not only places importance on winning games, but on academics and graduating players as well.”

For all NCAA members in all divisions, Duke ranked third behind two Division III schools, Williams College and Amherst College .

Duke now has three No. 1 power rankings in the NCSA’s four year history of producing them.  Duke received a No. 7 ranking in 2004 before claiming the top spot each of the last three years.

For all NCAA divisions combined, Duke ranked No. 8 in 2004, No. 3 in 2005 and No. 4 in 2006.
