Jerrod Mustaf has had an odd and interesting life’s journey. A two-year player at Maryland under Bob Wade, the NBA didn’t really work out for him. He played overseas for several years, and now he’s the director of athletic development at Laurinburg.

Alonzo Mourning has a new book out which strongly suggests recruiting improprieties at several schools, including Maryland, Georgia Tech, and Virginia. All those coaches – Lefty Driesell, Bobby Cremins, and Terry Holland – are long gone, and allegations are only allegations. But they’re interesting allegations.

When Virginia Tech joined the ACC, people around the conference expected them to be a competitive drag. And they have been, at least in the sense that it’s been a drag as they’ve moved up past several other schools.

Gary Parrish has a column up on the remaining elite recruits and he asks Dave Telep and Evans Daniel where they might go. As far as Kenny Boynton goes, they split, with Telep predicting Duke and Evans Florida. We’ll see soon enough. By the way, both guys peg Derrick Favors as a future Yellow Jacket.

The Sixers, as you probably know, picked up Elton Brand over the summer after things broke down with the Clippers. Now they’re getting ready to get started, and Elton sounds like he’s ready to go. Look out, Boston.

Jack McClinton has turned out to be a much better player than just about anyone expected when he left Siena for Miami. Miami should be a potent team this season, and he’ll be their best player.
