Here’s a story about the Rose Bowl game played in Durham, back when Duke was a huge football power. For anyone who doesn’t know, the game was originally canceled after Pearl Harbor and then moved to Durham.

You have to give it up for Florida State for showing enormous heart at Georgia Tech. Playing with only six scholarship players and basically no frontcourt, FSU beat Tech 66-64.

In Saturday’s ACC action, Virginia Tech beat St. John’s 54-48 in the Areopostale Classic in New York, Clemson beat Samford 78-45, Western Carolina finally fell to N.C. State74-62, and Miami somehow lost to Winthrop, 76-70, losing a lot of their hard-won credibility in the process.

There were a couple of interesting games Saturday: Pitt got just ripped by Dayton, 80-55, and Wisconsin nipped Texas at the buzzer. Pitt lost another crucial starter as Levance Fields had what appeared to be a serious foot injury. An early report suggests a fracture and that his season is over. [...]

How did Western Carolina get a 10 point lead on State?! Almost halftime!
Update…State came back in the second half to win, but it’s hard to imagine any ACC team going down 10 to Western, much less at home.

In ACC Friday night action, all the ACC teams won, which is a good thing since all the opponents were bad, with a combined record of 10-20.
