Bobby Conrad Nominated For Circuit Court Position

Sunday, September 30th, 2007 by DBR

Former Clemson point guard Bobby Conrad has been nominated to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, which would leave him only one possible promotion as a judge, that being the Supreme Court.

Close But No Cigar – Miami Pulls It Out

Sunday, September 30th, 2007 by DBR

They don’t give you anything for coming close, and moral victories aren’t what anyone wants, but that said, Duke’s getting better, even if it doesn’t show up yet in the win column. For the second year in a row, the Devils gave Miami all they wanted before bowing in the fourth quarter, 24-14.
Duke has [...]

Bizarro World, Lexington, c. 1963

Sunday, September 30th, 2007 by DBR

Though the events in “The Thin Thirty” happened decades ago, what Paul Mooneyham describes in his review is best summed up in his opening paragraph: “Southeastern Conference football, exploitation of players, game fixing and a gay sex scandal involving a legendary pro wrestling promoter and a Hollywood film icon. How’s that for a tease?”Pretty good, [...]

Falling A Ways From The Tree

Sunday, September 30th, 2007 by DBR

Larry Nance’s daughter, Casey, is blowing off his alma mater of Clemson for Dayton. Her game (shotblocking and defense) sound similar to her dad’s at Clemson, or at least how he started out.

Stupidity Breaking Out All Over

Sunday, September 30th, 2007 by DBR

Maybe it’s just us, but there seems to be a string of drug crimes/charges lately, perhaps culminating with the arrest of Indiana recruit Bud Mackey, who was arrested on cocaine charges. Kelvin Sampson can’t comment on it, since Mackey hasn’t yet signed, but our guess is that he’ll never play at Indiana – assuming [...]

Miami 24, Duke 14

Saturday, September 29th, 2007 by DBR

Near miss, but not close enough. More later.

Brodhead Apologizes

Saturday, September 29th, 2007 by DBR

A belated apology is better than none: President Brodhead has publicly apologized for his role in the lacrosse case, and good on him for doing it.

The Best Twenty-Five Years For K-Dog

Saturday, September 29th, 2007 by DBR

We’re celebrating a bit this weekend, as it’s now been 25 years since former Duke star Kenny Dennard had testicular cancer. He’s had a great run since his illness and has made a life many would envy. On top of that, he’s a first-class card who has relished his second chance and has [...]

Belatedly, The Herald-Sun Reads Bilas’s Letter

Saturday, September 29th, 2007 by DBR

It took awhile, which is no surprise, but the Herald-Sun apparently realized recently that Jay Bilas had written that letter to the Duke Magazine calling for the departure of President Brodhead and trustee chair Robert Steel (most of the rest of the world found out around Tuesday).
In this article, Bilas expands somewhat on his thoughts [...]

Barry Jacobs Talks To Greg Paulus!

Saturday, September 29th, 2007 by DBR

Barry Jacobs got to speak with Greg Paulus, and Duke’s point guard had some guarded comments about last season but our guess is that he’s spoiling for some new action.
