Georgia Tech’s stay in the Top 25 will be brief this time:  the Jackets lost to Dayton, a dangerous team as we mentioned this morning, 63-59. Rookie star Derrick Favors had 10 points and six boards; Gani Lawal had eight boards and nine points.

In Wednesday night ACC action, Wake Forest beat Scott Cherry’s High Point team, 83-60, and FSU clobbered Stetson, 80-38.

In ACC action, Clemson had no trouble with Liberty in the morning, winning 79-39, B.C. whacked St. Francis, 72-44, Maryland flicked Fairfield aside, 71-42, and Virginia Tech got by UNCG, 59-42.

In Monday night ACC action, FSU beat Jacksonville, 81-67, Miami beat someone called Nova Southeast, 108-58, and Virginia, as predicted here yesterday, lost the ACC’s first game of the year to South Florida, 66-49.

In ACC Sunday night action, Virginia Tech had no problem with Brown, winning 69-55, Wake clubbed ECU 89-58, and UNC got past Valpo,  88-77, in a closer game than many thought, although we told you it might be.

Georgia Tech, after a near exhibition disaster against Indiana (PA), had a better outing in their season opener against Florida A&M.

In ACC action, Clemson thumped Presbyterian, 84-41, B.C. had no problem with Dartmouth, 89-58, Virginia took care of Longwood, 85-72, Maryland clobbered Charleston Southern, 89-51, and Wake managed Oral Roberts, 76-56.

State had to earn its win over Georgia State, but they got it, and Dan Wetzel argues that Tracy Smith has emerged as State’s leader.

In ACC news, UNC not surprisingly ran right over NCCU, where by the way Robert Brickey is now an assistant. Marcus Ginyard had a career high with 17.  Will Graves started again, and maybe it’s us, but we’re guessing that’s not necessarily Ol’ Roy’s first choice, but rather an attempt to get some perimeter punch [...]
