Things have changed a lot in the ACC since expansion and as far as arenas go, things started changing before then.
Of the traditional hell-holes in the ACC, only Duke, Clemson and Georgia Tech still have great pits and Clemson and Georgia Tech essentially rebuilt theirs from the ground up.
It was a wise move. State, UNC and Virginia moved to vastly bigger arenas with more seats, but all three have had stretches of either losing or significant apathy (remember the UNC brouhaha over adding fake crowd noise?)
We will say that all three schools boast handsome, modern arenas even if the Dean Dome is now a bit dated.
Around the rest of the expanded ACC there are some interesting arenas. The Yum! Center is very snazzy and Louisville wins consistently so it’s always a fun spot. The Carrier Dome is legendary for fan passion and capacity.
Probably our favorite ACC arena outside of Cameron though, at least for certain games, is Virginia Tech’s Casell Coliseum.
Too often it hasn’t been that great but in fairness Cameron wasn’t always that great in the early 1970s when Duke was losing a lot either.
When it is great though, Cassell is a beautiful environment.
Anyway, we mention all of this because we saw this link with pictures of all the ACC arenas. It’s no big deal but it is nice to see them all together. Cameron’s home of course but it’s nice to visit from time to time.
