Hours after Grayson Allen decided to return to Duke for his senior year, both CBS and NBC report that guard Frank Jackson will return for his sophomore year as well.
That gives Duke a backcourt capable of scoring 40-50 points a night which is a healthy start for the offense and a pretty sound base for defense too.
It’s a smart move for Jackson too. A general rule of thumb should be that if you’re not a full-time starter in college, if you haven’t at least gotten to say third-team all conference in your league, the odds are you’re not ready for the NBA.
Of course neither guy is a natural point guard so Duke will keep looking for that and may well start a three-guard lineup. Both Allen and Jackson are athletic enough to pull that off nicely.
