If you live in North Carolina, then you know we're in for a weird weather ride this week. Much of the state is expected to get between 4-9 inches of rain, and that's not even counting whatever Hurricane Joaquin is likely to drop on us.

For those who went through Hurricane Fran, this is unpleasantly familiar. Fran ended up downing hundreds, if not thousands of trees across the Triangle, at least partly because the soil around here turns to a consistency like pancake batter when it is saturated. So when Fran barreled through after many days of rain, it knocked down trees like nine pins (by the way, pro tip for anyone who may be in the path of Joaquin: when you make preparations, make absolutely, positively sure you have a full tank of gas. The power will go out and you won't be getting any anytime soon. This is the voice of hard-won experience speaking).
The Triangle is looking at a possible record 12-straight days of rain, and that will include Saturday, when BC comes to Wallace Wade for what may become a great, muddy wrestling match.
Anyway, given the intense rains we're expecting, Duke is assuming that the crowd at Wade will be smaller than normal and has a plan to discount prices for walk-up buyers depending on the odds of rain. So if you play your cards right, you could pay a 1980s sort of price for a good game.
Of course, you'll likely be soaked to the bone, but hey, you can't have everything.
