What's coming? A big Kentucky freakout.
That's what will happen if the U.S. team, led by Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, opts to take Mason Plumlee, who moved up to the senior team on Tuesday, over DeMarcus Cousins.
Never mind the fact that John Wall and Anthony Davis are likely to make the team (Davis more so than Wall).
Kentucky fans will be irate, or at least the crazy ones will.
But there are reasons, as we've mentioned several times.
Cousins is well known for his inability to control his emotions. It's come up in camp at least once; on Tuesday, an angry Cousins turned and hit a wallpad as everyone else ran the other way.
What use is that? If he really wanted to make a point, he'd have beaten everyone downcourt and gotten the ball back. That would've impressed everyone. Instead, he chose to act out.
No one would argue that Plumlee is the better athlete, but at this point in their respective careers, he is the better man. And as far as the staff goes, Coach K, Chris Collins and Jeff Capel know exactly what his strengths and weaknesses are.
He's active, he's intense, he's reliable and he'll never have a meltdown.
As we've seen over the years, that's not necessarily something you can say about Kentucky fans, so get ready for a summer of strange.
But hold the phones! Kevin Love might not be ruled out yet after all.
