Are package deals about to jump the shark?
The notion, made popular first by LeBron James, Dywane Wade and Chris Bosh, spread to high school recruiting, most prominently so far when Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones made it clear they wanted to attend the same school, and then chose Duke. Justise Winslow wasn’t as central to the plan, but the versatile Texan signed on as well, giving Duke a terrific trio to build around.

He’s not completely wedded to the idea yet, but California big man Ivan Rabb says he’s thinking about signing on to the package deal that Diamond Stone and Malik Newman are proposing, with Kansas and Kentucky being the primary (if not only) options.
Stone and Rabb may not overlap enough to cause a problem at either school, but neither Bill Self nor John Calipari has had a shortage of big men lately.
This will die a natural death soon enough. The idea now is to showcase yourself for a season and catapult to the NBA. People will naturally focus on their own prospects. It’s fairly rare to find guys who are willing to share attention when the object is millions of dollars.
