It's happened before. We don't mean to make comparisons, but when Wilt Chamberlain came along, the entire country waited for him to play for Kansas.
Same for Lew Alcindor, now known as Kareem, when he showed up at UCLA. His entire high school career fans were just waiting, and when the UCLA freshmen destroyed the varsity team, it just confirmed his coming greatness.
Ralph Sampson and Patrick Ewing came up with similar expectations and both were dominant players early.
Then again, you see other guys who develop more slowly. Think Anthony Davis, Tim Duncan and Elton Brand.
And then there are big men who never live up to expectations.
Everyone who's seen Okafor says pretty much the same thing: not the world's greatest athlete, but a tremendously skilled big man.
You've probably heard the Duncan comparisons.
Of course, the final word will likely be Okafor's. And what is he thinking?
He's thinking national championship, he says he's changed his diet and is in the best shape of his life...and he sees Duncan as his role model.
